Young MVP, POY Exits

YOUNG MISS BASKETBALL MVP
Jill Young of SD Elite was named MVP of the Miss Basketball tournament. The tournament also listed their All-Americans. SD Elite also had Kristin Rotert, and Liz Helsper take honors. Talisha Barlow from Mpls Lady Lakers made the All American list. Find out more from the Miss Basketball website.

16u AAU NATIONALS
Kenner Angels from Lousiana beat the Michigan Pistons 59-55 in the quarterfinals.

13u AAU NATIONALS
The Michigan Monarchs won two games yesterday to advance to the sweet 16 round. They first beat Memphis Elite 51-26 and then took out Kansas Belles 55-44. They play Texas Thunder Gold today.
North Tartan advanced with a 62-43 win over SW King Build Bball. They now will play PA Miss Rec Center.

NEXT TOURNAMENT
The local tournament this weekend is the Adidas Mid American Championships put on by the MN Stars organization. Schedules can be found at the Stars web site. There are a few different age divisions, but the 17s have some strong teams including Miss Basketball champion SD Elite, Iowa Select I, Iowa Elite, and Northern Lites. At the 16 level the Quest, winners of the Chicago Nike Summer Showcase Green division is in the field.

PLAYER OF THE YEAR LEAVES
Another HS player of the year has left a D1 program before the start of classes in the fall. This time Arnika Brown, Kentucky's player of the year, will not go to Kentucky but will head to St. Catherine College in KY. The Missouri POY decided not to attend Iowa State earlier this summer. LOOKING FORWARD TO THE SEASON
Northland, WI has 9 incoming players ready to play this year. Coach Dan Roiger is optimistic about this year's recruits which include a few Minnesotans: Mel Waytashak, Pierz; Chelsea Lundgren, Crosby-Ironton; Ashley Reed, Norwood-Young America; Jessica Etter, Cherry. BALTZER READY FOR MACALESTER
Ann Baltzer is getting ready for the ND all star game and is also looking forward to playing at Macalester. Here is more on her story from the Bismarck Tribune.

ELITE CAMP OPENINGS
MN
The MN Elite camp has a few openings left for the 2006 camp season. The camp has been in operation since 1989 and is well respected in the camp circles. There are 60 college coaches at all levels that regularly attend this exposure camp. The camp is scheduled for July 25-28 at Concordia St. Paul. It is a great opportunity to play against the best and to be seen by the best.

Any interested players with the desire to play college basketball can apply to be accepted to the camp at http://www.mnelite.com/. They can click on "Interested Players" and fill out the information. The camp will then evaluate the information and possibly accept them into the camp.
