Bracketology Begins, Coaching Ban

COACHING NEWS
COLLEGE
Lisa Savoury has been named director of basketball operations at Eastern Michigan. She had been an assistant at the school. More on Savoury and her career are found in the EMU press release. Tiana Kirkland has been named an assistant and she replaces Mahogany Green who left for IPFW. Kirkland had recently been an assistant at Butler. Her story and background are found in her own EMU press release.
MN
Lynn Dalhed was named coach of Apple Valley earlier this summer. The local paper has a story on it now with the details on Dalhed's road to the job. Check out the This Week paper.

COACHING OPENINGS

One of the proposals making the rounds in the commission looking into open enrollment/transfer policy for Minnesota is either to ban or limit HS coaches from coaching AAU/All Star teams in the summer. Stay tuned.

TOURNAMENTS
MI
The Portland girls won the championship at the USSSA tournament in Tampa FL with a 59-38 win over Fairfax VA Cardinals. They were 5-1 in the tournament. Next up will be the opening day of practice on August 14. Read more in the Ionia Sentinel-Standard.

SD Elite plays Iowa Lightning I
Northern Lites faces Missouri Valley Express I
Right now it looks as if Daubert Pinnacle Nebraska could face SD Elite in the Quarterfinals. Both teams reached the finals in the Dakota Showcase.

AAU 13u
The 13u tournament begins in Kenner LA today. Iowa has one team entered--All Iowa Attack; Wisconsin has one team--Force. Minnesota has five making the journey south North Tartan; Lady Suns, Lady Cats; MN Starts, MN Metro Stars.
The 16s begin their bracket play today.

Nike Showcase
Only two area teams survived until the semifinals: MN Metro Stars 14 in the White division; MN Quest in the Green Division. more on the nike tournament.

MINNESOTA SUMMER SHOWCASE
This is a HS team tournament and it will be held at Rogers HS today and tomorrow. There are three divisions of 8 teams. Teams that made it to state last year include: Browerville and Barnum in the Gold division; Rogers, MN Valley Lutheran, Armstrong, and St. Michael-Albertville in the Blue division.
