Your Daily Dose of Girls Basketball News & Information

This game took place on Friday, June 30th
Dakota Showcase Pool Play
ND ECI West 70, SD Northern Lites 56

ECIW never trailed in this contest. They were up 10-4 on the strength of 5/6 scoring possessions to start the game. Alex Feeney set the tone early with six points in the first 10. They put together another 4 possession string and 8-0 run to extend their lead to 18-6. It was all up hill for Northern Lites after that. They suffered through two dry spells with a 4 string during the ECIW 8-0 run, and another four spot later in the half. ECIW held a 27-11 lead at the widest point in the first half. NL did outscore ECIW to close the half 11-7 to make the score 34-22 at half. Alex Feeney had 11 points to lead ECIW.

ECIW came out hot again to start the second half with a 9/11 start. In fact the first time ECIW finished a possession by missing a shot came on possession #22. Their six possessions they did not score on earlier in the half were due to turnovers. The biggest lead in the second half came at 58-41. NL did cut the lead down to 66-56, but by then the game was in firm control.

BY THE NUMBERS
ECI West 70, 65, 107.7, .508
Northern Lites 56, 63, 88.9, .397

When you grab an early lead it forces the other team to play catch up. NL was forced to take risks on offense they probably wouldn't in regular play. The offense was a tad forced, & rushed. Too many 3s were open, and fouls put some of their main big folks on the bench. ECIW was in the flow of the game, relaxed and doing what was available. ECIW made 17 free throws, 5 more than NL. NL had a 6/3 advantage behind the arc, but they also misfired from that range more often too with 10 misses.
In the Height & Weight battle ECIW won both, but it was fairly close 5-8.9 to 5-8, and 134.3 to 133.3.
