IBCA Iowa Select I 50, Kansas Hoop Service Black 39

This game started off just like the SD Elite/Omaha Laker game with ISI jumping out to a quick 7-0 lead eventually building to a 15-5 margin. ISI started off scoring on 5 of their first six possessions. Jacqui Kalin pumped in six points with four free throws and a pull up jumper. KHSB was 1/9 to start with their possessions. It was so frustrating for coach Thompson that he picked up a technical. Once they shook the cobwebs off they rolled with six straight scoring possessions and a 13-2 run to pull even at 15. Brianna Eldridge racked up six points in the resurgence. However KHSB had another miserable drought of 9 possessions in the heart of the first half. In fact they finished the half with a 2/15 possession run. Hoop Service missed seven shots in the 9 possession stretch. IBCA led at half 27-21. Eldgridge led all scorers with 10 at halftime.

KHSB had a strong start to the second half with 7 scoring possessions of their first 10. Hoop Service Black had a run of 15-8 to start and they took a 36-35 lead on Taylor Hanson's third 3 in the half. But just as they did in the first half, a massive 12 possession drought made any chance of victory fade into a mirage. It wasn't turnovers that did them in. ISI forced them to take shots they didn't really want, and then limited them to only one shot. ISI started their march to victory with two free throws by Kelsey Bolte as they regained the lead for good. ISI outscored KHSB 15-3 the rest of the way. Bolte was responsible for 9 of those points.

ISI had the advantage of size, speed and athleticism. When it came down to crunch time they responded by slamming the door on Hoop Service. In the half court system ISI worked the ball around for the best shot available. Toward the end of the game they really milked the clock. Three times I had to use another line in my notebook to keep track of their possession.

Next up: tomorrow morning with the general news of the day, and then two more Out & Abouts with Dakota Hardwood vs Mpls Lady Lakers in a 16 semifinal and MN Stars Greg Schmitz vs East Iowa Slam in a 15 semifinal.
