FAQ & GLOSSARY

Here is some Frequently Asked Questions and some definations

WHAT DO THE NUMBERS MEAN?
When reading an out & about I have listings with the team followed by a series of numbers. For example---
WESTSIDE
Smith 10, 8, 125.0, .625
Jones 4, 6, 66.7, .333

The first number is points scored
the second number is the possessions that player is credited with. Each time a team has possession one player has the ball at the end of the possession. That player is charged with a possession. You can only have three end results:
A player can score
a player can miss a shot and the other team gains possession
or a player can turn the ball over
The third number is points per 100 or pp100. This is how many points a player would score if they had 100 possessions. It is a way to evaluate the players across all situations. Smith would score 125 points and Jones only 66.7 points.
The fourth number is floor %. Floor % is determined by the number of times a player scores divided by the number of possessions. Smith scored on five possessions, Jones on two. (5/8, 2/6). A floor% of .500 or better is considered good. It basically means that player is averaging one point per possession.

The same system applies to teams after the NUMBER CRUNCHING section.

WHAT IS A DEFENSIVE WRAP?
A defensive wrap in my system is when a player gains possession of the ball for their team. A player does this by four ways:
Defensive rebound
Steal
Forced turnover (Smith forces Penn to travel, or Smith draws a charge). Some times this is a split result with a force on the pass and another player picking up the steal.
block leading to an offensive possession. If a player blocks the shot, but the offense retains possession it is not counted.

WHAT IS THE GOLD STANDARD?
The gold standard is a pp100 of 100 or over and a floor % of .500 or higher.
