BLOOMINGTON KENNEDY eagles 88,
MINNEAPOLIS WASHBURN millers 30

The only mystery in this game was how large the margin was going to be---58 points. This was the only game in town and the first to kick off the season. Kennedy played the last game of the year last year and opened the season against a depleted Washburn squad. As the only HS game in town it was a chance to see how the players on each side would handle a blow out. Many times teams play down to the level of the opposition. That didn't happen tonight. Kennedy put the hammer down and the score reflected the differences between the two teams.

The only thing Washburn won on the night was the opening tip. Both teams had problems early in the contest finding the basket. Kennedy scored their first point on their 3rd possession and didn't make their first field goal until their 7th. They opened 2/9 but after that they got into rhythm and their was no holding them back. Kennedy had a 5/6 scoring possession run to accelerate the process with four different players converting. Washburn scored their first their first points on their 14th possession on a transition basket off the Kennedy press. Washburn just didn't have the same skill sets, or athletic ability. Also players that were options 3 or 4 last year were no counted on to be options 1 and 2. Washburn shot selection spent most of the night hovering around the 3 point line.

The second half was much like the first, but with the Kennedy bench getting into the act. Washburn , after scoring on their second possession in the second half, went 15 straight possessions without a score. The first four all ended in turnovers. Not a classic confrontation tonight.

JFK won every stat category that was a postive. The Washburn floor % was the second lowest I have seen in my viewings of HS ball. But they did hit a new low for pp100. The previous low was 41.27 set by Fridley vs North Branch in last year's sections.

If you notice all five of JFK's players were near the gold standard of 100 for 100ppg. Zins wasn't far off at 92.3. Castillo was tops for Washburn at 60 pp100.

Next up: tomorrow morning.
