The freshmen Minnesota connection got off to a good start in Wisconsin's 96-29 kathumping of St. Norbert. Alyssa Karel (Cretin-Derham Hall) had 18 points to lead all scorers.
Michigan State beat Grand Valley State 72-42. Also from the Grand Rapids Press and Holland Sentinel.
South Dakota, in their last season as a D2 school, beat Northern Iowa in a 76-46 thumping ruining Tanya Warren's debut.
Creighton crunched Central Missouri 88-48.

VERBALS
Steph Paluch, Pierre has made a verbal to South Dakota State according to sources. The 5-9 G will graduate in 2009. Pierre was 21-5 and second in AA last year. She played with Dakota Lightning this summer. She is the third 2009 South Dakota player to verbal a D1 school. Iowa has two from 2009 that have verballed. Wisconsin and Minnesota haven't had any verbal yet.
UPCOMING SCHEDULES
UW Green Bay has released its 07-08 women's basketball schedule. UWGB has a double new opening with new coach Matt Bolant's first game and the first game at the new Kress Events Center coming on November 3. From the Green Bay Press Gazette.
Wisconsin also has released their non conference schedule. Also they have a team chemistry poster a la the periodic table. No incoming freshmen are on the photo.
NCAA KEEPS TEXT BAN

Alex Feeney, Bismarck has verballed Augustana. The 6-0 forward also played with ECI West Gold this summer. Feeney made the gbbrecruit first team in week #14 after the Dakota Showcase. She is the first North Dakota 2008 player to verbal a D2 school and the second to verbal a college.
Amanda Theut, Marine City Cardinal Mooney will be headed to Macomb Community College this fall.. Theut averaged 11.5 ppg this season. From the New Baltimore Voice News.

The ban on text messaging may get a reprieve. New restrictions---an out right ban---came into effect on August 1. Thirty schools are appealing this decision. Some players were constantly being text messaged and that was running up their bills. Most of the push is coming from football coaches. From NBC sports.

BRIDGE COLLAPSE
A lot has been written and seen about the 35W bridge collapse in Minneapolis. Mia Johnson, Michigan State player and former Minneapolis North player, is recovering from ACL Surgery and is staying in Minneapolis. The State News has a bit on how the bridge collapse has impacted her life.
Current Piston coach and former Timberwolf coach Flip Saunders was on the 10th Avenue Bridge when 35W went down. From the St. Cloud Times.

BADGERS TRIP
The Wisconsin Badgers are preparing for their trip to Australia and New Zealand. They leave August 16th and return on the 28th. Jolene Anderson will be making another overseas trip. She was with the USA team in Moscow, Russia early in July.
COACHING NEWS
Bill Agronin resigned at Niagara yesterday.
Coach Durbin's trip to China has been cancelled.
ON THE GROW

Hali Hendrickson, Albert Lea has made a verbal to MN State Moorhead. The 5-11 perimeter player averaged 13.0 ppg for the 18-9 Tigers. Hendrickson played with MN Stars Antl this summer. She is the 14th Minnesota player to verbal from the 2008 class and the 6th to go D2.
HOLIDAY TOURNAMENT

Team USA won their first Pan American championships in 20 years with a 79-66 win over host Brazil. Gopher Emily Fox did not score in the championship game.
COACHING NEWS
Nate Oakland has been hired as an assistant coach an Northern Iowa. Oakland was an assistant at UM Morris two years ago.
Central Michigan coach Sue Guevara has been busy since her hiring. She has a Q & A session with the Mount Pleasant Morning Sun.
FULL MEMBERSHIP
