NC HEAT 55, MN STARS BOROWICZ 49
NC Heat, despite not having two recent All tournament selections in Memphis, beat MN Stars Borowicz for the third time this summer 55-49. Again NCH started out with a 17-7 lead and withstood a hard charge by MSB in the second half to take the championship. Tayler Hill again showed why she is considered the best player in the state with 21 first half points as NCH led 32-22.
In the second half Leah Dietel of MSB came out with two straight 3s to cut the deficit and give renewed juice to the MSB chances. MSB closed to 37-36. They held NCH scoreless for four possessions, but failed to take advantage of that down time. Brittany Chambers did tie the game at 39, but then MSB went scoreless for three possessions. Jen Hill, Tayler's cousin, made two free throws to start a 6-0 run. The last four of those points came on second chancers. Tayler Hill ended up with 28 points for the game.

NC Heat jumped out to a 17-0 lead after their first 9 possessions over the Indiana Gym Rats in the third game I charted at the Meltdown. NC Heat was not at full strength with Megan Nipe and Anne Berner still in Memphis waiting for connecting flights. The Heat showed why they have been in championship games all summer. By halftime it was 40-23 for the Heat. Katya Leick had 18 points to lead the Heat.

NC HEAT 2ND
NC Heat finished 2nd in the AAU Junior National Tournament in Orlando today. NCH beat Garner Flames Blue out of North Carolina 63-60 in the semis and then lost to Silver Bullets NY Elite in the championship 67-53. Here are the brackets.
Tayler Hill, Katya Leick and Anne Berner were named All Americans.
SUMMER LEAGUE BLACK OUT
The Champlin Park Summer League scheduled for tonight was cancelled due to recurring black outs in Brooklyn Park. The power went out three times from 4:40 pm to 6 pm. The decision was made to play the entire CPSL playoffs next week starting at 6 pm.
At least this wasn't two and a half hours away like the time I went to Kingsland during a blizzard for no game. It was only a five minute drive this time.

NC HEAT 51, METRO STARS 19s 49
NC Heat rallied from a 10 point deficit, not once but twice to beat the Metro Stars 19s. Tayler Hill went on a scoring rampage blazing away for 13 straight points late in the game to put the Heat on the verge. It was Katya Leick that scored the game winner as time expired leaving the Metro Stars broken hearted. Speaking of broken hearted, my camera battery died right at the end, so I missed the winning basket. That spoiled an exciting, great performance day.
It was deja vu all over again in the second half. MS scored on four straight possessions, again with four different players doing the honors. That pushed the lead to 34-27. NCH opened with six empty trips and didn't score a field goal in their initial offense until their 9th possession. Is their a pattern developing? MS built out their lead to 44-34 with 3:30 to go. But then their offense stalled. They didn't score for four possessions as NCH ramped up the pressure. With 2:09 left Hill started her onslaught as went coast to coast with a rebound a

Like the Minnesota State AAU championship NCH took an early lead at 4-0. This time MSB got on the board much faster stopping the scoreless streak at six. MSB had a few players missing. The biggest was Amber Dvorak at 6-7. they also had Tyisha Smith and Danielle Mangen missing (both sub 5-5). Sarah Hintz of Woodbury was on the bench in street clothes. She will be returning to the court in about three weeks.
Earlier in the day I caught the end of the NC Heat vs Minne Southern Magic quarterfinals. When I came in NCH led 50-40. Then Tayler Hill took over. NCH won the game 66-48. NCH had eight straight scoring possessions with Hill scoring eight straight points and 10 total in the 16-8 run.

NC HEAT 58, NORTH TARTAN LARSON 52
NC Heat topped North Tartan Larson 58-52 in pool play on Saturday. It marked the first time this year I have charted NC Heat and they did not top 100 pp100. Also NTL had a thin bench with only two subs. NCH had their full contingent. NTL was missing Rey Robinson, Jennifer Dowd (ankle), and their two Iowa players Amanda Zimmerman (HS softball tournament) and Chelsea Poppens (recovering from the Parkersburg tornado).
NC Heat got out to a quick 8-0 lead. Both Megan Nipe and Tayler Hill had &1 opportunities they converted in the early lead. NCH had four possessions that they converted for three points in the first half. NTL opened with a six possession drought. The first half maintained that spread for the most part. NTL did close to 20-16 after a coast to coast rebound and finish by Suriya McGuire. At half time it was 29-24 NCH.
The same slow start damaged NTL in the second half. This time it was a five possession drought. NCH was on fire with four straight scores. The Heat had an 8-0 run for a 37-24 lead. The biggest spread came at 44-28 after the Heat's 7/9 offensive sequence to start the second half. At that point NCH had a pp100 of exactly 100. The rest of the game they struggled at 63.6 pp100. NCH had a five possession drought that started the slow down. NTL finished with a 24-14 run. With 1:57 to go NTL closed to 55-51. Shakila Boler led the main thrust for NTL with 10 points in a 14-5 run and a 6/7 offensive sequence. Tayler Hill responded with two free throws to push NCH back up 57-51. Boler didn't finish a possession the rest of the game. Both teams combined had six straight empty possessions. Suriya McGuire made one free throw on the last NTL possession. Tayler Hill added one free throw on the last NCH possession. Megan Nipe grabbed the miss on the second shot and they ran out the clock.

NC HEAT 99, MINNESOTA LAKERS 43Coach Teas & I arrived at Woodbury expecting to see NC Heat and North Tartan Larson, but that time was switched. Instead the Minnesota Lakers took on the Heat. NC Heat set a record for older teams with their pp100. The highest pp100 record holder is Mpls Lady Cats last year when they hit for 145.1 pp100 in a 14u game. NC Heat sets the record for pp100 in the older division (17u). The previous high was 133.85 by Daubert Pinnacle Nebraska in 2006. The recor
d for a high school game is still 129.7 by Adrian in 2006. Ironically Sam Lynn made the game tying basket in that game for Adrian with a mid court shot at the buzzer. In this game the record was set on Lynn's team.
NCH was quick out of the gate and didn't let up. Tayler Hill cashed in a three right on the first possession. NCH scored on six of the first seven possessions to take a commanding 13-4 lead. By their 17th possession NCH led 29-11, a pp100 of 170.6. ML had a drought of 12 that didn't help their cause in the first half. NCH led at the break 57-19. Hill had 17 at half.
There was no suspense in the second half other than if NCH would reach 100. They fell one point short.
Nine of the NCH players were above 100 pp100 and two were at or above 200. The Lakers had one player make the 100 mark.

Minnesota State AAU Tournament
JUNIOR ELIGIBLE CHAMPIONSHIP
NC HEAT 82, MN STARS BOROWICZ 72
NC Heat won their 6th straight Minnesota State AAU girls basketball title with an 82-72 win over MN Stars Borowicz. Tayler Hill put on a clinic with 34 points, 12 assists, and 9 defensive stops---all leaders with an exclamation point. Hill had 20 points at half time.
NC Heat took advantage of a slow starting MSB squad with a 16-2 lead with about 13 minutes to go in the first half. Hill started the fireworks early with a spin move in the paint followed in short order by two triples. She had 8 of the first 16. After two free throw by Leah Dietel on the second MSB possession, MSB went eight possessions without scoring. That gap held up most of the game. When playing top level competition it is hard to climb out of the hole. NCH's biggest lead in the first half was 33-15. Hill & company continued to hold that advantage at half time 42-27. MSB only had two three point field goals in the first half, one on a put back.
The second half saw a flurry of activity early. NCH scored on five
For those that are history buffs here are the two other Minnesota State AAU tournaments I charted:
2006 when NCH beat Total Package 51-46. Hill had 28 in that contest. Current NCH players Jamelia Hudnell, and Brittany Dyshaw played with TP back then. Theairra Taylor also played for TP and is now with MSB.
2007 when NCH beat North Tartan Larson 77-61. Hill had a eerily similar 34 points then too.

NC HEAT
STARTERS
Tayler Hill, Mpls South 34, 20, 170.0, .750 the glue, the indispensable. It didn't matter who was guarding Hill for MSB she was unstoppable. They threw the kitchen sink at her and she washed her hands and threw it back. A tour de force performance. Hit three 3s, scored on drives, pull ups and went to the line seven times. A healthy 13/14 at the line. 12 assists too. That means 58 points (.707) had Hill's finger prints on them. Her undervalued defense led both teams. She understands the game and can read your mind. What a night.
Anne Berner, Forest Lake 7, 6, 116.7, .667 post player. Her size matched up well against the MSB posts. Still has that nagging wrist injury.
Mandy Poke, Richfield 10, 9, 111.1, .556 point guard. also delivered a couple of trey bombs.
Megan Nipe, Centennial 15, 15, 100.0, .533 another solid performer. went to the line six times including two &1 chances.
