CONCORDIA ST. PAUL 64, NORTH TARTAN ELITE 63
Exhibition game.

Jamie Jones made a rebound shot off her own miss with 4.5 seconds left as Concordia St. Paul handed North Tartan Elite its only loss in the exhibition season.

Spoiler alert--I didn't get to the game at tip off, so the numbers will not match the final totals, but should give a good indication of what happened. I came in at 12-8 NTE.

CSP's Lindsey Palmer made a three for the first points I saw to make it 12-11 NTE. NTE maintained that advantage, but CSP went into hibernation on offense with a 1/11 possestion sequence. NTE went on a 10-2 run during the drought with former CSP players Smith (4) and Carlisle (3). Carlisle in fact is an assistant coach for CSP. CSP did close out the half with a four possession string and an 8-3 run to trail 33-28 at half. Jones was instrumental with six points.

CSP tied it up at 34 on a Lund rebound basket. CSP converted five of six possessions early to get back in the game. But Tanisha Gilber answered with a three on the next NTE possession. Gilbert soon fouled out of the game. She was whistled for her fourth, and showed her displeasure by bouncing the ball up to the rafters. CSP was only able to sqeeze one point on that opportunity. NTE led 40-38 at this point. They built it up to 45-40 when CSP went on an 8-0 run on a 3 of 4 possession sequence. Palmer downed a deep three, Nielson cleaned up a missed shot, and then Kirchenwitz drilled a trey from the left corner to give CSP their first lead in the second half 48-45. NTE took the lead back with a trey of their own from Ashley Smith to make it 53-52. Lindsey Dietz, who cashed in nine of her points at the line in the second half, made two to make it 58-56 NTE. CSP made three free throws with Olstad providing one, and then Behnke making a pair to retake the lead 59-58 with under 2:30 to go. Smith once again cashed in a 3 bill for an NTE lead 61-59. She then added two free throws to give NTE a 63-59 with under 1:30 to go. Both teams traded non scoring possessions. Palmer hit a 3 from near NBA range on the right side to make it NTE 63-62 with 48.9 seconds to go. Dietz drove to the glass and missed and the ball went out of bounds. On the next CSP possession the Golden Bears took two time outs, the last with 14.4 ticks left. On the inbounds play Jones got the ball and took an elbow shot. The ball carommed deep into Jones' hands and she delivered the winning shot with 4. 5 seconds left. NTE's Jackie Doerr was driving to the basket for what appeared to be the winning shot when someone for NTE called time. Doerr's basket was waved off and the clock went from 1.3 to 2.2 seconds. Dietz had the last chance and it missed.

BY THE NUMBERS
from only when I saw the action
Concordia St. Paul 56, 62, 90.,3, .435
North Tartan Elite 52, 62, 83.9, .419
Sorry about missing the first 7 or so minutes, but I think you get a good understanding what happened.
CSP needs to work on finishing inside, and on their transition. NTE is a talented collection of individuals, but their practice structure is probably not as zeroed in like CSP since the players are scattered. CSP also needs to keep the opposition off the line. NTE made 19 free throws in the second half compared to 8 for CSP.

North Tartan beat SW MN State on Thursday 59-52. They also topped UM Duluth Saturday night 73-70.

SIGNING
Porsha Zimmerman, Minneapolis Roosevelt signed with CSP earlier in the week.

Next up: tomorrow morning.
