CENTENNIAL cougars 69, MINNEAPOLIS NORTH polars 41

#7AAAA Centennial broke the game open with a 31-3 run over the end of the first half and beginning of the second half. North was 1/20 in their scoring possessions during the stretch.
It started off with both teams trying to get in sync. Centennial trailed 13-10 when their offense kicked in and their defense slammed the door shut. Megan Nipe and Kellie Schuneman each had 10 points in the 31-3 run. Schuneman had two 3s on consecutive possessions from the top of the key area. Centennial was 10/12 during a portion of the run. They scored off the drive, off back cuts, in transition (10 points), and the 3 ball. North broke a 14 possession scoring drought with a three from Maurika Carlisle. At that point it was 41-19 and the game was out of reach. Centennial had another outburst with a 6/7 scoring run. Centennial eventually ruan the score up to 64-26 when they went to their deep bench. North was able to regain some points with a 15-5 run.

MINNEAPOLIS NORTH
STARTERS
Maurika Carlisle, G, 19, 21, 90.5, .381 first game back for the point guard. has pull up jumper and has 3, but mostly off her own dribble. RF hampered by the lack of movement with her team. was forced to create too often when nothing was happening. It was easy for Centennial to guard one player.
Apiphany Asberry, F, 0, 10, 0.0, .000 RF: shooting, ball handling decisions were all off today. wasn't aware of time at the end of the half. defensive positioning needs work.
Nadvia Davis, C, 0, 4, 0.0, .000 RF: used too many fakes.
Chaundera Riley, C, 6, 5, 120.0, .600 good hands. RF: spent too much time in the bench. Needs to get into shape.

Europe Guy, 10, 11, 90.1, .364 lefty, RF: spent time at the three line casting up threes. picked up useless foul
Kendria Buckner, 2, 7, 28.6, .143
The entire North team needs to jump to the ball and not lose track of their players. Their defensive position (too high) and intensity need to improve.

TRENCH PLAYER
Megan Nipe

BY THE NUMBERS
Centennial 69, 69, 100.0, .478
Mpls North 41, 70, 58.6, .257
Centennial moved the ball, and moved their bodies with crispness and purpose. Everyone was involved, everyone was moving. North stood on offense and watched Carlisle try to do everything. No movement of the ball or players changing spots on the floor. North's posts were out of shape. Centennial was physical and aggressive for loose balls. They used their bodies well protecting the ball and had solid block outs. Their top seven players were close to the gold standard of 100 ppg; North only had Carlisle close to the 100 ppg mark, but she was their due to her 3 shot (4 treys) and seven points against the deep bench of Centennial.
In fact Centennial pp100 with the starters and top bench players was 114.3; Defensively Centennial limited North to 46.4 pp100.

furthermore North only made four free throws on the night. Centennial made 14. a sign of offensive aggressiveness. One area North had an advantage was the 3point line with 6 to 3 for Centennial. But Centennial ruled the paint points and second chance points.

Two important player notes for Centennial: Kiara Allums will be sitting out for awhile. She went through the warm ups, but will not be able to play until later in the year. Last year she played at St. Paul Highland Park. Also Emily DeWitt is out with a foot injury. She had a boot on one foot. DeWitt's sister, Katie is now at Drake, and her father is the coach at Anoka-Ramsey.

Next up: St. Paul Central/Hopkins
