Class A Upsets Abound in Michigan

MICHIGAN REGIONAL FINALS

The top four teams are done in A with Auburn Hills Avondale, Lansing Waverly, and Grosse Pointe North all tasting defeat in the regional Finals. That means Brighton is the top ranked team left at #5.
#6 Kent City was outed in C in another upset.
Here is how the field stacks up for next week's state tournament. You will need to scroll. The most interesting match up: Detroit Community vs Saginaw Nouvel in the C quarters Chippewa Valley HS on Tuesday night.

#1 A Auburn Hills Avondale was upset by Rochester in a convincing 54-40 win. From the Detroit Free Press.
That wasn't the only upset as Fraser took out Grosse Pointe North 68-57. From the Detroit News.

East Lansing put an end to Lansing Waverly's unbeaten year with a narrow 38-37 win.

Traditional power Detroit King returns to the state showcase with a 56-48 win over Farmington Hills Mercy. From the Detroit Free Press.

Brighton is in the elite 8 after a 51-40 win over Chippewa Valley. Brighton started the season #1 but stumbled out of the gate with three losses in the first two weeks. Now they have their act together. From the Ann Arbor News, Detroit News and the Livingston Press & Argus.

Saginaw Arthur Hill mowed down Mt. Pleasant with a 55-37 win. From the Mt. Pleasant Morning Sun.

East Grand Rapids punched their state ticket with a 44-38 win over Cedar Springs. Kent City has a 45-2 record for the last two years.
Unity Christian trailed by 12 in the first half before mounting their comeback against South Christian in a 58-46 regional final win.

Detroit Renaissance is still the defending champ and will get the right to win another after a 45-36 win over Chelsea. From the Ann Arbor News.

Stevensville Lakeshore ended Otsego's chances for state 38-31. From the Kalamazoo Gazette.

St. Clair towered above Goodrich, but Goodrich led with six minutes to go by 6, when Kelsey Rood took over and scored 10 straight. The result is St. Clair moves on with their 4th straight regional title 38-33.

Portland is headed to state for the first time since the Nixon administration (1973) with a 45-25 shut down of Saginaw Swan Valley. From the Lansing State Journal.
