TRACKING THE ELUSIVE 10 YEAR OLD
Here is what is happening in the boys side of things with shoe companies fighting over the future of a 10 year old. Sounds absurd? probably. Here is where I found this article in the True Hoop bullet section. Brian McCormick's Blog also goes into the critique of the system. The system is off balance and needs to get back to the basics.
Another great article is from McCormick's blog Getting Seen. Again this should be required reading.

ATHLETES IN OTHER ACTION
WI
Rae Lin D'Alie, who has signed with the Badgers, also has talent in other sports. She has been named Soccer player of the year by the Racine Journal Times. She proves my contention the good athletes win across the board. Their competitive nature, and athletic ability transfers to other endevours.

COACHING NEWS
COLLEGE
Ashlee Kelly is the new coach at Mercy NY, a D2 school in the . Again the competitive streak takes over in this article from the Pittsburgh Post Gazette.

12u AAU NATIONALS
MN
The Minneapolis Lady Cats had their AAU experience end with a loss to the GA Hawks '93 54-44.

BY THE NUMBERS

The Lynx were tested in the third quarter when the fell behind to Washington 53-51 after enjoying a 15 point lead in the 2nd quarter. So over the course of the later part of the 2nd quarter and the first portion of the 3rd quarter Washington outscored the Lynx 28-11. Oddly enough it was the 3rd quarter that Augustus did not score, or for that matter, have a possession.
The best string the Lynx came up with was at the end of the game when the money was on the table. They finished with five straight scoring possessions after Washington came within a whisker at 73-71. Augustus scored on the alley oop pass from Abrosimova to get the streak rolling. The rest of the possessions ended with free throws.
Both teams started the 4th quarter with droughts of five. MN suffered through a fiver in the early part of the 3rd quarter (when Washington was making it's run).

If we subtract the defensive numbers from the offensive totals here is the +/-
Jacobs +36.4
Augustus +35.1
Mann +38.2
T Williams -100
Ohlde -48
Abrosimova +44.4
A Williams -50
Duffy 0
Hayden -133.3
It is easy to see the guards got the job done last night. Inside plays needs a little more polishing.
As for Washington?
Teasley -98
Miller -41.1
Robinson +25.5
Sanford -12.5
Melvin +28.6
Koehn -100
Blue -200
Byears -41.7
Teilane -100
James +200

Next up: later today with the quarterfinals from the Dakota Showcase: 1. Iowa Elite I vs MN Triple Threat; 2. SD Elite vs ND ECI West.
