This game took place on Friday, June 30
Dakota Showcase, Pool Play
Prairie Shooters 51, MN Summit 33

The first thing that should be known about this game is that Prairie Shooters is in reality Mandan HS in ND. Mandan has won the A tournament (the highest class) the last four years. They are the dynasty like the Yankees in ND basketball. They are also coached by their HS coach. PS also uses the wave system with a harrassing press. Players know each other, and what everyone is supposed to do. There are obvious advantages to this system.

However Summit led early in this game 7-1 after their fifth possession, part of that was due to the three possessions with out scoring for PS. That was to be their worst drought of the first half. PS tied it at 7, and the game see sawed back & forth with both teams tied at 11. This is when MS went on a 7 possession drought and PS took advantage of that by going on a 10-0 run. Summit ended up the half with a 1/12 offensive streak. 8 of those possessions were on shots that didn't connect. Twice they had more than one shot at the basket. PS led 24-13 at half.

In the second half PS had an eight possession drought and Summit was able to knock off a 11-0 run to make the score 35-29. PS had all 8 possessions end on missed shots. They snapped out of that rut with a four possession streak and 8-0 run to push the lead back to a comfortable 14 margin at 43-29. They were helped by MS going into their own 8 possession funk. Four were the result of turnovers.

BY THE NUMBERS
Prairie Shooters 51, 55, 92.7, .455
MN Summit 33, 56, 58.9, .286

Even with the 8 possession drought PS had fairly good numbers. The press and system that is ingrained in the players helped them get over that dry spell. Neither team went to the line that much with Summit scored 5 times, and PS only 4. Summit also won the battle behind of the arc 4-1. Where PS dominated was in the transition game with a 7-0 advantage, and on rebound baskets 7-1 (or 14-2 in points).
