your daily dose of girls basketball news & information

this game took place on Saturday, July 1
Dakota Showcase, Quarterfinals

SD Elite 71, ND ECI West 50

ECIW led in this game early, scoring on their first two possessions. The game was tight, back in forth with the game tied six times, the last at 23. Prior to that both teams were in offensive slumberland with ECIW not finishing 5 times, and SDE not getting the job done 4 times. In six straight scoring possessions (5 after the tie) SDE broke ECIW's back as they went on an 13-4 run. Five different SDEers scored during the run, led by Jill Young with five points. ECIW managed to cut two points off the lead by half, but SDE was up 41-33. In the battle of the point guards Young had 13 while Privratsky had 10.

The dry spells were more frequent in the second half for ECIW. They opened with a 4 possession number, and then had a 1/8 stretch not long after. By that time SDE was up 57-40. SDE never had a great offensive string, but they did limit their offensive snoozing. They had one 4 stretch early in the second half, but ECIW was also asleep at the wheel at the time.

SD ELITE
STARTERS
Jill Young, Mitchell Christian 22, 12, 183.3, .750 If you missed by rave reviews check out the report on the pool play with Iowa Elite II. She gets everyone involved, raises the level of play, and makes others better on the team. Great shot, great instincts, great BB IQ. Young didn't get the double double with assists as she only had five on the day. There might be an ink shortage if I write and rave any more about her. RF: plays in an out of the way state in an out of the way Class.

BY THE NUMBERS
SD Elite 71, 66, 107.6, .485
ND ECI West 50, 64, 78.1, .359

SDE only made 3 free throws the entire game but trounced ECIW anyway. ECIW did score 11 times from the line. The 3 ball contest was won by SDE, but the margin wasn't that large 8-5. SDE won the game with great passing, unselfish play and being more aware of the court than ECIW. SDE doesn't have the size, but they have good teamwork considering they only had two practices (according to a SDE mother). This team is an audience pleaser, if the audience likes good shooting, good passing, and a team that clicks.
This game marked the fifth straight game where a team cracked the 100 pp100 gold standard. Is that because the teams are better, or have practiced longer (except for SD Elite)? Whatever the reason it is much more enjoyable to watch players that can play and know how to play.

Next Up: tomorrow with the general news of the day with two more quarterfinals Nebraska Daubert Pinnacle vs SD Riders; Prairie Shooters vs MN Metro Stars Black
