this game took place on Saturday, July 14
Gold Division Championship
Rogers Summer showcase
Barnum 43, Crosby-Ironton 37

Crosby-Ironton started off in the lead in this game as Betsy Wehseler knocked down a three in the opening possession. They pushed the lead up to 8-3 when CI cooled off and Barnum heated up. CI went into a seven possession drought which Barnum took advantage of on a 11-0 run. 9 of those points came at the hands of Colleen McKay inside. CI missed six scoring chances and only had one turnover in the string. It was a 1/12 possession string for CI and Barnum pulled out ahead 16-9. Barnum wasn't ripping it up towards the end of the half only going 2/9 on their offensive work. Barnum led 19-11 at half with only two players scoring: McKay with 11, and Myhre with 6 (both from behind the arc.)

The second half with scoring on four of the first five possessions. After that initial flury in still remained a 9 point game infavor of Barnum 24-15. Barnum then slumbered on offense six straight times while CI had a 9-0 run all by post Annie Adams. Barnum regained the lead on the next possession by a small perimeter player's 3, three possessions later Myhre dropped one in on the left side for a 30-24 lead. The closest CI was to get after that was at 41-37 when Adams converted two free throws. Time was on the wane at that point and Barnum walked off the court with a 43-37 win.

Again it should be kept in mind that not every team had numbers or names to go with the numbers. If you know who the #s are drop me an email and I will fix it.

Barnum was better at executing their offense in this contest rather than their semifinal win over Browerville. But the general feeling I get is that this is summer ball, teams aren't in winter training modes or synchronization. Shots aren't dropping that probably do during the winter. Other general comments: players need to get stronger, quicker---we have heard that before. Ball handling can improve across the board. Dribbling with vision on the basket is extremely rare. Passes are not crisp and clean. Defense with general positioning is still to high and defenders still look into eyes of their player getting easily faked.

Next up: the championship game at the MN Top 100 Expo & their awards.
