This game took place on Saturday July 1
Dakota Showcase Finals
Daubert Pinnacle Nebraska 65, SD Elite 57

You may be wondering why I don't have another semifinal report. Both games were going on at the same time.

This was a revenge game for DPN who lost to SDE in pool play 54-51. DPN controlled the 3 pt line allowing only one in the first half. SDE did can 3 with 2:14 to go in a desperate comeback attempt. For most of the first half SDE held the upper hand, their biggest lead coming at 11-4. They scored on 5/6 possessions to build the lead, but they were making the world's longest twos with feet stepping on the 3 pt line. DPN took their first lead at 20-19 on a transition basket after a SDE miss by Kelsey Woodard. DPN did string together four scoring possessions late in the half. DPN took advantage of making 3 3s in the first half.

The key break point came early in the second half when DPN scored on 5 consecutive possessions with a 12-5 run. They converted 3 3pt plays with Woodard hitting two. Most of the half the game remained at the 8 point margin, but late in the game SDE had a surge. At the 2:14 mark Jill Young canned a 3 and cut the margin to 53-49. Kayla Uhing made her first free throw to bump DPN lead to 54-49. Kristin Rotert grabbed the rebound, was fouled, and made both free throws to make it a 3 point game. Amber Hegge scored, was fouled and made a free throw to make the lead 57-51. Jill Young cut the margin to 57-54 with her 3, but then SDE took a time out they didn't have. Abby Henry made both technical fouls. But in the ensuing play Dominique Kelley's pass was thrown away. SDE came right back with a Rotert 3 with 37.5 to go to cut the lead to 59-57. Uhing was fouled and made both shots to make it a four point game. Abby Plucker's 3 went askew for SDE and Woodard rebounded and was fouled, but she missed her chance. Plucker rebounded, and Rotert missed a shot. Kelley rebounded, was fouled, and made both free throws to lead 63-57. Plucker missed another 3. Hegge got the rebound was fouled and finished the scoring with two free throws.

SD Elite 57, 57, 100.0, .474

The 3 point game left SDE with 4 for the game. DPN canned 7. If you look at scoring possessions the fact was DPN out did SDE 29-27. SDE did lead at the FT line with 19 to 16 made tosses.

This tournament had three strong teams. Iowa Select I, if they played SDE 10 times would probably beat them 9 times. SDE had great shooters. DPN was always above 100 pp100 in games I charted. The tournament was well run and well publicized. Some of the other tournaments can learn how to promote their tourney from this organization. The Miss Basketball organization will have another tournament at Kearney, Nebraska on July 13-16. DPN, SDE, and ISI will all be there along with 61 others.

Next up: tomorrow after I return from the Great Lakes Shootout.
