TRENCH PLAYER
Sheryl Swoopes

BY THE NUMBERS
Minnesota 55, 76, 72.4, .355
Houston 78, 76, 102.6, .474

Houston trailed after one quarter, but that was it as they slammed the door on the Lynx. Houston actually led 6-0, before MN awoke. MN then scored the next seven points to make the game fairly competitive. They led after one 22-19. Seimone Augustus dominated with 12 1st quarter points. Unfortunately she only scored three more the rest of the way.
With the Lynx up 26-21, Houston went on a 10-0 run with five straight scoring possessions. What Augustus was to the Lynx in the 1st quarter, Sheryl Swoopes was to Houston in the 2nd. She had 14 including 7 in the outburst that put the Lynx out of the lead for good. MN offensive woes were evident in a 1/10 sequence during the Houston run.
Three times in the second half MN had five possession droughts. In the WNBA that is a recipe for losing. Augustus had her second straight game sub 100 pp100. Is the rookie hitting a wall? Amber Jacobs cooled off some, but didn't have as many possessions. Jacobs was fine. The problem is in the paint with Ohlde, and Hayden not connecting offensively. Mann has 3 points in the last two games. Maybe her back is too messed up for her to be effective. With Houston missing two starters (Canty, Thompson) MN should have been able to squeeze out more than 55 points. It was the worst performance of the year offensively breaking the low set in San Antonio. There they had 73.2 pp100, and .378 floor %. Maybe it is the Texas water.

Next up: I am actually not going to post the rest of the day. Tomorrow morning will be the next call.
