your daily dose of girls basketball news & information

This starts the 7 game viewing this weekend at the Adidas Mid America Championships
This game took place Saturday, July 22
16u Quarterfinals
MN Quest 69, KS Team Excel 63

Friestleben and Fritz are not personal injury lawyers out of Stuttgart, Germany, nor are they a micro brewery from New Ulm, MN or a old time vaudeville act, but they are the dynamic backcourt duo for MN Quest. Together they combined for 50 of the 69 Quest points (72.4%).

First off, I wasn't going to report on this game, but when I realized that the late start on the other court would foul up the rest of my plans for the day I quickly started scribbling down the information for this contest.

At the time KTE was up 6-3. Then Quest, who won the Nike Green Division in Chicago the weekend before, strung together five straight possessions, outscored KTE 10-3. KTE tied it at 15. Quest put together another little flurry with a 4/5 possessions and pushed the lead to 26-20. Friestleben had 9 points in the 11-5 run. KTE came back with 3 points on three different possessions and it was 32-30 Quest. Bree Kisner had two three point plays, one was three free throws after being fouled behind the line, the next was a regular bomb from 3 land. Both teams were tied going into half at 36. Friestleben had 18, and Kisner had 12.

Quest, and Friestleben scored first, but TKE was right on their heels. Both teams were tied at 42 when Kisner canned a trey to give them the lead 45-42. Their biggest lead in the second half was six points, the last time at 52-46 again by Kisner on a drive. Then KTE had a seven possession drought that Quest took advantage of for an 8-0 run. Colleen Raune gave Quest the lead, but only momentarily at 54-52. Kisner put KTE up on a 3 57-56. Then it was a series of trading one point leads. Fitz stuck a three to give Quest the lead for good at 63-61. The Quest pushed the lead to six before the clock struck zero.

BY THE NUMBERS
MN Quest 67, 63, 106.3, .508
KS Team Excel 57, 64, 89.1, .391

Keep in mind the numbers only relate to the time I watched the game. The first minute or so is not accounted for that is why KTE only has 57 and not 63.

Only 3 other players hit field goals for Quest. The one-two punch however was lethal. Quest would go on to win the 16U division. In bracket play they have an 8 game winning streak. The first time I saw Quest was in Mid June in the Mpls Y tournament, they have sharpened up on their game. Their role players don't try to do too much offensively, the F&F show has been running to rave revues.

Next up: tomorrow morning with the general news of the day, plus two more O&A: SD Elite vs Omaha Lady Lakers; Iowa Select I vs KS Hoop Service Black. This is going to be a busy week with the MN Elite camp, the rest of the Out & Abouts, and then the North Tartan melt down next weekend.
