MCAA CHAMPIONSHIP
NEW LIFE eagles 60, MARANATHA mustangs 54

Due to the amount of games the summary is going to be brief.

New Life won round two in a potential three round bout over Maranatha 60-54. Maranatha led early with two 3s, NL trailed 13-9 when Danielle Schmidt came in and hit three consecutive 3s. In fact she had 12 straight NL points (but the 4th came five possessions after her 3rd). That trey-riffic performance put NL up 21-14. Jenna Higgins used her height to good advantage with two consecutive put backs for Maranatha to make it 23-21. A key point came when Higgins picked up her third foul with 2:03 left in the half. NL finished the half up 31-25.

NL rode that momentum early into the second half with Sarah Nisleit providing five points. That put the score 36-25 the high water mark for the Eagles. Then they went into a 7 possession drought--with some sloppy play. That was the opening Maranatha needed. Alexis Long started the comeback with a three. Higgins was on the bench to start the half, but then picked up her fourth foul rather quickly at the 11:41 mark and had to return to the pine. She wasn't the only Mustang in trouble. Also picking up four fouls was Danielle Masera. Despite those burdens Maranatha took a 45-43 lead after a three by Rachel Long. Jenny Ramey came right back for NL with her own three. That started a four possession scoring run, but Maranatha was staying close at 50-47 with 6;06 left. In that NL run Higgins picked up foul #5. Still Maranatha kept battling and took another lead at 52-50 on a trey by Masera. On the next NL possession Rebekah Schmidt scored on her own put back to tie it at 52. Both teams had two empty possessions. DeRosier gave Maranatha their last lead at 54-52 with 3:31 left. That was to be the last Maranatha points. Their last 6 possessions were dry. NL finished the contest with four straight scores. Jenny Ramey scored on a put back to tie it at 54. Cara Lutes hit what proved to be the game winner with 1:20 left.
