BREAKDOWN FALL LEAGUE

This was the final weekend of fall league for 2008 and I was going to watch two contests. That didn't happen. Unfortunately Eden Prairie only had six players and didn't stay around for what was going to be my second game of the day vs Park-Cottage Grove. The first game matched up the two finalists from the AAAA State Championship game for the past two years. The difference in this game today was another absence----Tayler Hill of South. SPC led throughout the game with three ties in the first half. Central's biggest lead coming early in the second half with a 6 point margin.

This game started out with three straight scores. Theairra Taylor, the recent Iowa signee knocked down a trey to put Central up 5-2. Europe Guy had a three of her own to tie it up. The defending two time champs continued to build their lead with TT knocking down another three, and Samantha Robinson-Ricks scoring on a drive to make it 12-7. Ameshia Kearney came into the contest for South and she hit two consecutive baskets, one of which was a three to narrow the margin to 15-12. Tyisha Smith handled the point guard responsibilities and she looked to take it to the basket each time. Smith went to the line three times as Central wasn't going to allow free lay ups. However Smith was perfect at the line all day on her way to 10 points. Guy tied the game at 18. Johnson broke the tie with a three. That started a 6-2 run to finish the half. Smith wrapped up the half with two free throws after the horn to make it 24-20 Central.

Central pushed their lead to 26-20, the biggest of the day on a potential &1. Sadiqah Jihad started the South comeback right away with a three. Smith went to the line for two more free throws on the next Tiger possession. Robinson-Ricks pushed the Central margin back to 30-25. South never could get get over the hump. The Tigers got as close as 32-31 after an complete &1 from Kearney and two more times after that with the last coming on two more Smith free throws. South had two chances to take the lead but a turnover and two missed free throws left them stranded. Laura Hansen scored an insurance basket with 2:30 left. Jen Hill added an insurance free throw to stop any three point ties.

Could these two teams face each other in the AAAA State tournament again? The answers begin tomorrow as Minnesota opens High School practice.

FALL BREAKDOWN LEAGUE

*my score, the score on the board was 38-34.

This was a late afternoon game and I left the north metro at 3:40 for a 4:30 game thinking I could make it on time. Wrong. The traffic south on 35W south of 94 was crawling along to the crosstown work. What should have taken 15 minutes took 35. That put me behind schedule. I got to Kennedy at 3:35 and didn't make it down to the gyms until a bit later. I knew I was going to be late, but I didn't know I was going to be late by a full half. The Skippers and the Crimson were just wrapping up the first half.

This was a rematch of the Champlin Park Summer League championship and the results were the same. The comfort level for the fans was much better today however. MG broke the tie at the start of the half with two straight scores--one on a Hannah Reichel basket and one on a Jen Field drive. The Skippers answered right away with two field goals by Jill Tichey. The fate of the game turned when Minnetonka scored six unanswered points midway through a five possession Crimson drought. MG was 1/8 if you stretch the sequence out a bit longer. The Crimson had problems with their range shooting. Minnetonka delivered one from behind the arc to stretch their lead to 35-30 with under 5 minutes to go. MG did cut the margin to 35-34 after a basket by Rachel Biederman. Ali Bomgard scored on a drive to make it 37-34 with 1:30 left. MG didn't score their next three possessions with 4 chances glancing off the rim. The Skippers have now won two in a row over MG.

LAKEVILLE NORTH panthers 38, EASTVIEW lightning 36

Lakeville North led twice in this contest, at 2-0 in the beginning and then at the end of overtime when Rachel Banham scored on a lay up. Eastview led by as many as 10 in the first half and 7 in the second half. Kelsie Ammann tied the game for LN with a three with under 30 seconds to go in regulation. This was LN's second straight OT game of the day. Earlier the Panthers beat Richfield in OT 47-45 on a Allie Seurer basket.

This was a Lake Conference game in November. Both teams are long time rivals going back to the days of Podominick vs Broback. This also was a story of the line. LN controlled the free throw line with 21 attempts to only 7 for Eastview. The Lightning controlled the 3 point line with four from beyond the arc. Sam Mehr hit two consecutive 3s in the first half to put Eastview in front 6-2. As stated above LN scored first on a Cassie Rochel basket. After that the Panthers were 1/9 with their chances. Eastview wasn't much better with a six possession drought. The Lightning snapped out of it first with three straight scores capped by a Kelsey North 3 to pull out to a 13-6 lead. Eastview's biggest lead came at 18-8 with under 3 minutes left in the half. LN got their wind back (after the Richfield OT game) as they scored three straight times with Banham scoring twice off Kaiya Sygulla steals on the full court press. That cut the Eastview margin to 18-14. At the half Eastview led 20-14.

LN scored the first five points in the second half to cut the margin to 20-19. A three by Amanda McAlpine gave the Lightning some breathing room. This started an avalanche of points with LN scoring on four straight chances and Eastview converting on four of five possessions culminating in a trey by Heather Duehn from the top of the key to make it 30-23, their largest lead in the second half with ten minutes left. LN outscored Eastview 13-6 the rest of regulation. LN tied it at 36 on a three by Kelsie Ammann with 30 seconds left. Eastview was working it down to the wire for a shot when Rochel blocked the attempt and fired it to Sygulla streaking down court. The horn went off before any shot could be attempted.

In the one minute overtime there was only one score. Eastview and LN each had two cracks at points. Eastview missed a trey, LN came up empty on a one & one chance. Eastview again worked the ball down to the end. This time Sygulla made the steal and Banham converted for LN's second straight OT win.

In a game that started earlier than scheduled, Centennial out rebounded the Hopkins Royals 46-30. Centennial led 23-18 at halftime and then opened the half with a 10-2 run. The one-two punch of Bridget Schuneman and Megan Nipe combined for 38 points. Schuneman dominated the inside with 20 points and controlled the offensive boards. Nipe, who recently verballed George Washington, was her deadly self, with only one missed possession on the charts.

Even though it was "fall back" Sunday this game was in the "spring ahead' category. It started well before the scheduled time of 10:30 am. I arrived early only to see that the contest was already in full swing. This was a battle of two teams that have been in the top five in the polls last year and expect to be there again this year. It was also a battle between a Centennial team that didn't rotate players as heavily has Hopkins did. Hopkins also was coached, while the Cougars were self directed.

When I arrived Hopkins led 4-3. The Royals did stretch the lead out to 11-7 after a hard three point possession in which Laura Bruce made her first free throw, missed the second with the Royals retaining the possession on a rebound by Tori Joranson. Bruce scored on a put back after awhile. Technically the same possession for three points. After that sequence Centennial revved it up with four straight scores on a 7-0 run. The one-two punch of Schuneman and Nipe did the damage there with two out of bounds plays accounting for four of the Cougar points. Hopkins never led again after that. Both teams traded points on seven straight possessions with Centennial holding a 23-18 lead with one minute left in the half. Nipe had an old fashioned three point play and two other free throws to close out the half. The last three possessions for both teams came up empty.

Centennial used a 10-2 run to bust the game open to start the second half. Schuneman was unstoppable with all 10 points. First off she had a nose for the offensive boards, second she went to the line three times in this sequence, and she used her body position to "seal the deal" inside. By the time the Schuneman Tsunami was through Centennial led 33-20 with 11:00 to go. Centennial had another hot streak as they moved the ball crisply and players moved sharply on the floor. The Cougars scored on seven of eight possessions in the last half of the second half. Centennial handled the Hopkins pressure and was more aggressive on the offensive boards. They also attacked the basket more. The Cougars attempted 13 free throws in the second half to four for Hopkins.

BREAKDOWN FALL LEAGUE

PRINCETON tigers 41, ELK RIVER elks 36

Princeton broke free from a 36-36 tie with 1:24 left with a key offensive rebound put back basket by Brooke Karst after a missed free throw. The last minute Princeton added three more points at the line to tie up the Mississippi 8 vs Northwest Suburban match ups on the day.

Both teams lost in the first game prior to their match up. Princeton had problems scoring against Andover, while Blaine beat ER 31-26. With the hit and miss nature of the fall leagues Courtney Metcalfe was missing for ER.

The Tigers didn't score for their first 8 possessions. The main Princeton guns were on the bench to start the game. ER jumped out to a 5-0 lead. The first five points for Princeton came on three straight possessions and all of the points came from Mariah Clarin. ER was stymied by the Princeton defense. Princeton took the lead on a Brooke Karst 3 and kept it the rest of the first half. The half ended on a deep three by Princeton's Kadie Savage. The Tigers led 19-12 at the break.

The biggest Tiger lead came on the first possession of the second half when Arianne Lind scored on a put back. ER roared back into the contest with five straight scores on a 9-0 run. The pendulum swung back to Princeton with a 9-0 run of their own to make it 30-21. Savage had the last five in that run. ER had another run in their pocket and tied the game at 36 with a three by Lindsey Hamilton followed by a free throw by Tempestt Wilson on the next ER possession. With 1:24 left Loberg went to the line for Princeton, but missed her free throws. Karst got the key rebound and put back and the Tigers didn't trail again. ER had three cracks at tying the game, but missed their opportunities. Clarin got the rebound to seal the win. Loberg and Karst made one and two free throws each to finish the scoring.

CHAMPLIN PARK rebels 29, ROGERS royals 28

Ashley Metcalfe made her second free throw with 3.5 seconds left to give Champlin Park a 29-28 win over Rogers in the first of two Northwest Suburban vs Mississippi 8 match ups. Rogers rallied from a four point deficit with two minutes left to tie it at 28.

Rogers played their deliberate, patient style but were missing Jennifer Dowd. CP was missing Jasmine Darden and Rachel Leitz as the hit and miss nature of fall leagues reared its head again.

Rogers scored first on the opening possession. CP soon connected with a trey by Abby McDaniel. The lead changed hands six times in the first half as neither team broke free. There also were four ties. Rogers had a six possession drought but didn't really lose ground to CP with only adding three points to break an 11 all tie. Rogers' Maria Laughlin tied it up with her first & one. The first half ended with a 16 all tie.

After both teams added two to their totals to start the second half. Both teams combined for 10 straight empty possessions. CP was the first to break their drought with an Ashley Witte basket. Rogers kept their drought string alive with a total of 8. Again Rogers didn't suffer because CP only added three points to their totals. With two minutes left CP led 26-22. Rogers on the next possession scored on another Laughlin &1. CP answered with two Schmidt free throws with 30 seconds left to make it 28-25. Rogers responded with a free throw by Megan Coleman. She missed the second and Laughlin grabbed the board and tied it up with a put back with 17 seconds left. The Rebels got the ball into the paint and that is when Metcalfe was fouled. She made the second free throw for the win.

Rogers had 18 turnovers for the game, 10 in the first half. CP only had 11 turnovers on the game.

BREAKDOWN FALL LEAGUE
Bloomington Jefferson
EDINA hornets 35, WOODBURY royals 34, Overtime

The Edina Hornets led once in the entire contest and that was enough to slip by Woodbury 35-34 at Jefferson. Woodbury led throughout the game and led by as many as 9 in the second half before the Hornets closed out with a 11-2 run. Woodbury didn't score the last 4:30 of the second half.

The Royals had the early jump with a 6-0 lead with four points coming in transition. Edina started the contest in a seven possession drought. The Hornets closed to 11-8 by using a full court trapping defense. The Hornets had an 8/10 offensive sequence making up for lost time, but the Royals were matching them and then some. Woodbury was 7/9 at the same time. Woodbury's biggest lead came at 24-15. A Taylor Young basket on an out of bounds play cut the margin to 24-17 at the half.

Once again Woodbury tested the nine point margin after a put back by Michelle Young. The Royals were destined to cool off in the second half however. The last time Woodbury led by o it was 32-23 with a little over ten minutes left. Edina didn't start their comeback rally until later four possessions later. Once they did it took on the life of a steamroller rolling down hill. Edina cut the lead to 34-29. A big three from the right wing by Molly Carter followed by two free throws by Asleson tied the game. On the next Royal possession Edina's Kenzie Miller stole the ball. Both teams traded missed baskets, Woodbury's a big further a field, and the regulation ended at 34 all.

In the one minute overtime the first Edina lead came after the front end of a Jamie Bresnahan free throw. Woodbury had a chance to take the lead back at the other free throw line, but Michelle Young missed the front end. Bresnahan rebounded and then the refs discussed whether it was a one & one or two shot. The rebound stood and Edina milked the clock dry for 21 more seconds. Woodbury didn't get a great shot off at the end.

Earlier in the day Edina beat Rosemount 31-25, and Maple Grove defeated Woodbury 31-18.

BREAKDOWN FALL LEAGUE

FOREST LAKE rangers 29, ROSEVILLE raiders 14

It was the opening round of the Breakdown Fall League in the south division and I picked this game to see Anne Berner of FL and Janae Burich of Roseville battle in the paint. Neither was there and neither were other starters from last season. That is the danger of Fall Leagues, hit and miss attendance. The Roseville players were out due to fall sports. Also with the MEA weekend a lot of people are on extended vacations. As it was Forest Lake doubled up Roseville.

FL dominated the offensive boards getting four cracks at points in the first possession. FL scored on their first three possessions. After that both teams were only able to score 8 points combined in the next 31 possessions. That is a combined pp100 of a frosty 25.8. Roseville by themselves was a bone chilling 11.8. By half time FL led 18-6.

Roseville found some success early in the second half narrowing the margin to 19-12, but the Raiders reverted to their first half pattern with a 15 possession drought which stopped cold any momentum. FL had one four possession scoring string late in the contest, but by then the contest was decided.

STILLWATER RED ponies 56, BLAINE BLUE bengals 52

Stillwater Red handed Blaine Blue their first loss in the Blaine fall league 56-52. Both teams have one loss in the league. An eight possession scoring spree in the second half turned a 7 point Blaine lead into an 8 point Stillwater lead. Blaine did close to two points, but the Ponies had answers to the Bengals rallies. Whitney Novak had 14 points and six assists for the Ponies. Courtney Kelly had 16 points for the Bengals. This marked the second straight week where I saw an undefeated team fall to a team with one loss. Last week Hopkins knocked Bloomington Kennedy from the unbeaten ranks.

Blaine had the early advantage at 5-1 after scoring three straight times. The Bengals used sharp movements and back cuts, back cuts, back cuts to score their quick hits. Stillwater returned the favor with three straight scores of their own and led 7-5. That was the pattern in the first half--one team had a run, the other team would follow. Blaine had an 11-0 run with a 4/5 offensive sequence. Tracie Gillund had four of those points. Stillwater broke a five possession drought with four quick hits and a 8-0 run to take a 15-14 lead. Kristen Sahr had four points in the Pony run. It was Blaine's turn to finish off the half and thei 8-2 run gave them a 22-17 advantage at half. Kirsten Goodroad delivered right at the buzzer.

Blaine scored right on the first possession and reached their high water mark with a 24-17 lead. After that Blaine went into famine with a seven possession drought while Stillwater went on a feast with their 8 possession scoring spree. The Ponies had five free throws, and two 3s in the burst. Sahr and Whitney Novak had five points each in the 17-2 run. Blaine narrowed the gap to 41-39 with under five minutes to go. Two back to back 3s by Amber Meyer and Novak gave the Ponies an 8 point cushion. Blaine attacked the basket hoping to draw fouls. It did. They spent their next seven possessions driving and at the line scoring on six of them. The Bengals had 8 points at the line in the last two minutes. Stillwater also went to the line as Blaine tried to get the ball back. The free throw parade ended with 15 seconds to go as Stillwater ran out the clock.

Hopkins knocked Bloomington Kennedy from the undefeated ranks at Minnetonka with a 40-30 victory today. Hopkins led for most of the contest with Kennedy's only lead coming at 14-13 in the first half. Hana Potter had 10 points to lead Hopkins. Brittany Zins led both teams with 15 points for the Eagles. Both teams are now 5-1 at Minnetonka.

Both teams were missing players. Hopkins' Jenna Lillemoe was out with an ankle injury. Kennedy's Aubrey Davis is out with mono and Alexis Holt is out recovering from her knee injury.

Hopkins started off the game with three straight lay ups, while Kennedy didn't strike until Zins knocked down a three on the fifth possession. Hopkins maintained their lead up to 11-9. A three by Campbell turned the lead over to Kennedy at 12-11. There were three straight lead changes. Potter scored to put Hopkins in the lead for good at 16-15. Kennedy had a five possession drought at that time. After working the clock down, Laura Bruce knocked down a shot to put the Royals up 22-17.

Kennedy cut the Hopkins lead to two twice early in the second half, but an inconsistent half court game and missed opportunities at the line prevented the Eagles from closing any further. After a Kennedy time out the Eagles scored on a Zins put back to make it 28-24. The rest of the way Hopkins outscored JFK 12-6. The Royals had a 6/7 offensive sequence with five different players contributing. Kennedy missed six points at the line in the closing 7 possessions.

APPLE VALLEY FALL LEAGUE
RICHFIELD spartans 53,
MINNEAPOLIS SOUTHWEST lakers 26

This was the final stop on the three game tour today. It was also a look at the third fall league (so far). This contest was a rematch from last week. This week the Spartans doubled up the younger Lakers 53-26.

This game had a lot in common with game two today. The Spartans used their full court pressure to build a 13-0 lead. SW had problems advancing the ball past the time line. The Spartans stretched their lead out to 21-3 before the Lakers finished with a 7-4 run. It was 25-10 at the break.

There wasn't a lot of mystery in the second half. The Spartans continued to add to their lead. Again at the end of the half SW had a slight advantage. The Lakers closed with a 13-8 run, but the contest by then was decided.

The lighting was horrible at Apple Valley meaning the stop was set under 200 so the action gets blurry. My hope is high schools quickly get the new lightning. It is "green" plus costs less to run--not to mention it is much better for photographs.

MYAS FALL LEAGUE

LADY LIGHTNING 51, LADY BUCS 38

It was a battle of Ladies today at Eagan it was the Lightning over the Bucs 51-38. The Lightning is made up of Farmington players---freshman and sophs. The Bucs are from Waterville-Elysian-Morristown, a class AA team between Faribault and Mankato.

The Lightning have players that are lean and have the hungry look. The used their full court press to full advantage as they struck for a 17-2 lead. On the first 12 possessions LL scored 8 times. LL had 9 points off second chancers in that run. The LB attacked inside and spent a lot of time at the line. The Bucs attempted 31 shots at the line and converted 12. By half time the Lightning led 31-16.

In the second half the margin didn't move much. The Lightning had 9 players score on the day with point guard Shelby Calhoun leading all scorers with 13 points. Calhoun had three 3s on the day.

MYAS FALL LEAGUE
Black Division: Armstrong
CENTENNIAL cougars 53, OSSEO orioles 47

Today I saw three games in three different gyms. Stop one was at Armstrong with a rematch of the 5AAAA championship last year. This time it was Centennial getting a bit of revenge by beating nemesis Osseo 53-47. Megan Nipe led the Cougars with 24 points.

Centennial took the early advantage with a 16-6 lead. The Megan connection Nipe and Waytashek contributed 10 of those points for Centennial. At their widest Centennial led 25-12. Then it was Osseo's turn for resurgence. Between the end of the first half and the start of the second the Orioles went on a 16-3 run. Osseo did take a 37-36 lead after a basket by Jessica Fife. After that There were two ties and two lead changes. Centennial grabbed the lead for good on a put back by Mariah Miller. From that point on the Cougars closed with a 9-5 run with Nipe doing all that damage.

ROOSEVELT FALL LEAGUE
Championship
HOPKINS royals 61, RASCALS 43

Hopkins won the first Roosevelt Fall League Championship with a 61-43 victory over the Rascals. Roosevelt is the only fall league that has a playoff format. The Royals went through the entire RFL undefeated. The Hopkins crew has been on a driven mission this fall. This stems from a variety of factors
1. The Royals want to get back to the State tournament in March. They have missed the event the last two seasons.
2. The Royals were not invited to the Sweet 16 and have used that slight as motivation.
3. The Royals have what looks like to be the most competitive line up/roster openings and players are trying to make an impact to secure a spot on the team. Every game in effect is a tryout.

That balance and intensity was felt by the Rascals in the championship. Hopkins went on an 18-4 run in the first half to put their stamp on the contest. The Royals led at the half 30-18.

In the second half Hopkins scored on five straight possessions near the opening of the half to claim a 41-22 lead. The Rascals battled back to 42-33, but the waves wore out the youngsters. The depth and balance took it's toll.

The Rascals overcame a six point deficit late in the second half and tied it up on Sadiqah Jihad's three to force overtime. In the extra session it was all Rascals as they scored right off the tip and every possession after that. The Rascals were perfect at the line in overtime (6/6).

In the first half Roosevelt had a 21-11 advantage before another patented strong finish by the Rascals. The Orange scored on their last four possessions to cut the margin at half to 21-20.

The Rascals are primarily Bloomington Kennedy players with a smattering of others. Roosevelt is almost exclusively Teddies, but in an ironic twist their primary post is Kaylani Edwards of Kennedy.

Roosevelt is the only league that has a championship round and in the semifinals Hopkins advanced to the championship round of the Roosevelt Fall League with a 41-29 win over multiple school 43 Hoops. The Royals used their relentless defense, and deep bench for the victory. At half time Hopkins had a commanding 21-6 lead.
The Royals' Hana Potter led both teams with 10 points.

MYAS FALL LEAGUE
Green Division---Concordia St. Paul
WESTERN WISCONSIN 27, BARNUM bombers 25

Western Wisconsin slipped by Barnum 27-25. WW rallied from a five point second half deficit to beat the Bombers. WW is made up of players from Amery, Siren and St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin. WW was missing Taylor Luke who was bear hunting this weekend. Barnum consisted of only six players. A few of the other Bombers are not able to play during volleyball season.

Western Wisconsin took advantage of 15 points on second chancers on the day to edge the Bombers who lived up to their name with five long range 3s. WW needed those points, because their transition game was a tad off with missed lay ups. Neither team had an advantage in the first half. There were six lead changes and two ties in the first half. WW scored on their first possession on a second chancer by Kendra Schiel. Barnum took their first lead on a trey by Katie Myhre at 9-6. The final play of the first half saw Sarah Myhre scoring on an off balance shot at the buzzer to put the Bombers back in front 17-16.

Barnum scored five points in the first four possessions as Leah Nordvall scored on a cross over drive to give the Bombers their biggest lead at 22-17. After that the Bombers were outscored 10-3. Both teams went into an offensive deep freeze with a combined 11 straight empty trips. WW scored on four of five possessions to finish the scoring. The game winning basket (and free throw) was scored by Hayley Olson on a put back & one with 3:36 left. No one scored after that. Barnum had three possessions and turned it over three straight times. The WW half court trap did it's job. WW had the ball for the last 1:31. They played catch and Barnum never fouled to stop the clock.

The MYAS Fall League opened today with games in six divisions at five different sites. Today I traveled to Concordia St. Paul for Green Division action. In the first contest of the day St. Paul Humboldt used their quickness, and defensive pressure to beat the Irondale Knights. Plus Humboldt had the Hicks trio to buzz around the court.

Actually this was each team's second contest of the day. Humboldt, even thought they won, started off the day with a 13 possession drought. Irondale enjoyed a five point lead before Ayanna Hicks drained the first basket. Both teams struggled to find the basket. Irondale had more trouble retaining possession while Humboldt tried to score deep before cashing in on turnovers. Irondale also had a 13 possession drought. The Hawks scored five straight possessions to put their stamp on the game. At half time Humboldt led 16-9 on the strength of 8 points on transition. Teresa LaRocque had 8 points for the Hawks at the half.

Not much changed in the second half. Irondale finished the second half with 14 straight scoreless possessions. Angeline Hicks had 10 points for the Hawks in the second half with eight coming on lay ups. The Hicks trio had 19 points in the second half.

Irondale was hampered by the absence of Jolene Blood out with mono for the rest of the fall and Mimi Reif who injured her ACL in Chicago in July.

43 HOOPS 48,
MINNEAPOLIS SOUTH tigers 47, two overtimes

43 Hoops topped Minneapolis South in two overtimes 47-46 in the Roosevelt Fall League week 3. 43H used the free throw line to good effect with a 13-7 advantage. Karin Gibson made the game winning free throw in second overtime. Tayler Hill led all scorers with 20. Besides that Hill led in D wraps and assists.

43 Hoops is the only multiple school team in the Roosevelt Fall League and today they received some first half help from a pair of Burnsville players---Molly Duehn and Rachel Moen. South was not at full strength. Noticeably absent, as she has been all fall due to work conflicts, was Tyisha Smith.

South led early at 6-5. But the Tigers went stone cold for seven possessions while 43 Hoops ran off 13 straight points to lead 18-6. South woke from their offensive slumber with Hill using her x ray mind reading ability to snatch errant passes. South ran off six straight scoring possessions on a 13-3 run of their own. The Tigers kept that rolling with six more unanswered points to close the half. South led 25-22 at the break.

South stretched their lead to 32-26 after a Europe Guy basket. 43 Hoops hung around and were within shouting distance. It was raining threes for a while with Hill hitting the first to put the Tigers in front 38-33. Karin Gibson answered right away with a trey and then Keely Brennan added another as 43 Hoops took the lead 39-38. From that point there were four lead changes. Two Brennan baskets put 43 Hoops up 46-42 with 1:13 left. South scored on three straight possessions, but only got four points for it. Gabby Roberts went to the line twice and came away with three points. Hill mad a free throw late, but missed the potential game winner. The game headed to overtime. Both teams had opportunities, but failed to score in the first extra session. The second overtime proved to be the finale with Gibson making the second of two free throws for the victory.
