Rocky Mountain beat Black Hills State 69-60. Katelynn Lamb (Sully Buttes) had 12 points for BHS. From the Rapid City Journal.

Rose-Hulman heads to Atlanta for their first games this weekend.

Opening Day

OPENING DAY
Today across Minnesota the 2008-09 season officially begins. Good luck to all players, and coaches during the tryout process.

For players---it is the how that a lot of coaches look for---how hard do you practice; how do you relate to coaches and teammates; how do you respond when things don't go well.

OUT
Megan Nipe of Centennial will be out until at least November 18th with a strained knee.

FIRST GAMES
Wisconsin will be holding games starting this week. Look for a couple of out & abouts from the Badger state on Tuesday and Thursday.

RANKINGS
This week the Minnesota Fury will unveil the first edition of their 2008-09 Power Rankings.

These rankings will be updated weekly or bi-weekly throughout the season and will be broken into the following categories: Varsity AAAA, Varsity AAA, Varsity AA, Varsity A, 8th Grade Traveling, 7th Grade Traveling, 6th Grade Traveling.

Traveling coaches at the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade levels can email team information such as team record and tournament results to nstorm@minnesotafury.com

A link to the Fury Power Rankings will be available on their website at www.minnesotafury.com

The Fury will be fielding teams at the following levels in 2009: 16U, 15U, 14U, 13U, 12U, 11U, and 10U. Visit their website for details

AAU
The Minnesota Fury AAU Club will be fielding a 16U/JR team out of the Rochester, MN area coached by Rick Canton (Head Girls’ Coach at Pine Island) and Scott Miller (Assistant Girl’s Coach at Pine Island). The Fury have been proclaimed “The Fastest Rising AAU Club in Minnesota.” Club Directors Nick Storm (Dover-Eyota Grad) and Justin Morris (Austin Grad) are both from the SE Minnesota area and are excited to provide a top notch summer basketball opportunity for girls in that area.

The Fury also have one stop available on their 16U-Metro team, and multiple spots available at the 14U level. Those inquiries can go to Justin at jmorris@minnesotafury.com

ESPN Hoopgurlz has released their Fab 50 high school teams.
Teams of note:
#20 Detroit Community
#31 Minneapolis Roosevelt
#32 Detroit Country Day
#41 Minneapolis South
#46 St. Paul Central

BOLER UPDATE
Shakila Boler of Minneapolis Roosevelt will go in to the doctor to get cleared for action on December 8. If cleared she will be ready to go vs Hopkins.

Sweet 16, Rookie Rankings

SWEET 16
Today the Sweet 16 tournament takes place at the College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph, Minnesota. Action tips off at 10:30 am this morning. Centennial will look to defend their title. Here is today's schedule.

PRESS CONFERENCE
New St. Cloud State coach Lori Fish will hold a press conference Tuesday at 4:30 pm. From the St. Cloud Times.

BEIJING BOUND
Marquette's Lauren Thomas-Johnson is in Beijing as an ambassador of the British Basketball Federation.

ROOKIE RANKINGS
Rethinking Basketball continues the ranking of WNBA rookies series.

FREE THROW LANE CHANGE
There will be changes in the high school free throw alignments this year. HS will follow the college rules. From the Holmen Courier.

MENINGITIS
Kelcie Wilson, a player from Jackson Lumen Christi in Michigan, is still in intensive care with Meningitis. She came down with the infection July 24. From the Jackson Citizen Patriot.

Knight Moves, Apple Valley Hires, Rankings, Tourney and Camps

KNIGHT MOVES
Former Gopher Leslie Knight has signed with a pro team in Switzerland. Three are no additional details on that yet. The Minnesota Miss Basketball of 2004 played her high school at Hopkins.

COACHING NEWS
Jeremy Gordon has been named the new head coach at Apple Valley. He was an assistant at Rosemount last season. Gordon will be the 4th head coach at AV in five years.

HOOPGULRZ RANKINGS

TOURNAMENT COMING
BATTLE OF THE PLAINS
There are 36 teams in the NCAA exposure event ranging from Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, South Dakota, Minnesota and New Jersey. The elite divisions features twelve teams including IBCA Red (winners of Dakota Showcase), NE Bison CSS (winners of Houston Cy Fair Classic) New Jersey Flames Elite (New Jersey AAU State 17U champions), and many more prominent basketball programs. Over 50 college coaches have committed to attend this event which will take place at the Bison Youth Sports Complex 710 Hill St Lincoln, NE 68502.

The Worthington Trojans won the Gold bracket of the SMSU team camp last weekend.

MORE TOURNEY RESULTS
North Tartan Crosby finished 4-1, Consolation Champions in the Chicago Summer Showcase. After a bad loss to the Central Illinois Pizazz, NTC rattled off 4 convincing wins in a row against Wisconsin Higher Level Camps, Texas Dynasty, Michigan MGBR Elite and Illinois Lady Lightning.

EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS
Hanna Muegge is averaging 3.8 ppg in the European 20u championships with Germany. Muegge is a Hopkins 2008 grad. Germany is in the consolation round with a 2-3 record.
On of her German teammates is Julia Trogele of Penn State.
