COLLEGE DECISIONS
The Press Newspapers in the Northeast Metro list the college decisions of six different schools. Here are the girls basketball players:

Tehani Goldsmith of Yavapai College (a two year school in Arizona) has signed with Memphis. The 5-8 guard averaged 19.6 ppg last year. Goldsmith went to high school at Phoenix Chavez.

COACHING NEWS

PRESEASON WNIT
Indiana will be playing in the WNIT tournament this fall. Cleveland State, Lafayette and Illinois State are other Preseason WNIT players.

GAS & CLASS
States in the southeast are looking at eliminating some classes to help defray gas costs. Schools won't have to travel as far to find games the theory goes. Will Minnesota join the trend? There are rumblings of going to three classes across the board.

Jenny Gilbertson of Winona Cotter is the Winona Daily News' player of the year. There is also an article on her competitive nature and her choice of Kansas State. There is no other link for the rest of the squad.

Ashley Runge of Grand Rapids is the Hibbing Daily News' player of the year. You might have to register to read the article, but it is free.

Tomi McDonald of Ely is the Mesabi Range's player of the year. Again you might have to register to read.

Marquette won the WNIT at Michigan State 81-66. Angel Robinson capped off her freshman year at Marquette with 16 points. Robinson won the MN AAAA Championship last year with St. Paul Central. Krystal Ellis (Racine St. Catherine) was named tourney MVP. Alyssa DeHaan (Grandville, MI) and Mia Johnson (Mpls North) each had 11 for Michigan State.
Even with the loss the future is bright for MSU according to the Grand Rapids Press.

More Mercy: The Northfield News looks at the mercy rule. By the way there were 7 teams that on average LOST by 35+ last year:
AAA: St. Paul Harding
A: ECHO; Community of Peace; Oh Day Aki; Four Directions; Swanville; Fond du Lac Ojibwe
There were no teams that made the list in AAAA or AA.
There were many teams that on average lost by 25 or more.
I saw two of those teams last season (Harding, Swansville) and they both would have had the clock run in the games I watched.

The Grand Forks Herald looks at 1000 point scorers in Northwest Minnesota. They look at the reason for the increase in the 1000 point club. They should have added #4 games are four minutes longer now.

IOWA REPORTS
The Clinton Herald has named their all area team. Here is player background on the first three teams.

WISCONSIN REPORTS
The Appleton Post-Crescent has named their All Area Team. Stacie Van Handel of Freedom was their player of the year. On the side they list the rest of their team.

Tequila Jones won a state championship in North Carolina for Fayetteville Westover. She moved their after her house burned down. She was a starter at Saginaw as a freshman and sophomore. From the Saginaw News.
