Shardai Morrison-Fountain of Columbus Africentric has verballed Marshall University. SMF is a 5-5 guard that averaged 14.2 ppg.
Ashar Harris of Columbus Africentric has verballed Morgan State University. Harris is a 5-11 forward that averaged 10.5 ppg.
The two verbals push the Ohio 2009 verbal totals to 55 overall and 44 headed to D1 programs.
ONE FROM VIRGINIA
Meixandra Potter of Freedom high school in Virginia has verballed Colorado State. From Loudon Prep Sports

Illinois' Jenna Smith (Bloomington Kennedy) has been named to the preseason All Big 10 team. Also on the first team: Michigan State's Allyssa DeHaan, Minnesota's Emily Fox.

Rochester is the #1 team in the preseason NJCAA D3 poll. Also Rochester's Anne Breland is a preseason All American.
Northland is #11 and Anoka-Ramsey is #15 in the poll. Itasca received votes.
Shawna Rogalla of Northland is a second team All American.

In the NJCAA D2 poll area teams include Kalamazoo at #2; Kirkwood (IA) #3; Mott (MI) #5; Des Moines Area #7; Schoolcraft (MI) #10; Bismarck State #20. Receiving votes are Gogebic (MI), Lansing (MI) and Oakland (MI).

The Minnesota coaching clinic moves to Hill-Murray today. Yesterday I caught part of the action with Minnesota coach Pam Borton during her transition demonstration. Also men's coach Tubby Smith spoke for 30 minutes.

The Iowa Basketball Coaches Association will hold its annual Fall Clinic October 31st and November 1st at Urbandale High School in Des Moines. The members only clinic is one of the largest high school clinics in the country with over 1300 in attendace each year. The Mastey Twins of Becker are part of the Gopher's All Minnesota freshman class. From WCCO.

DOWN UNDER
Coach Jon Noreen is in his 12th year taking girls and boys basketball players to Australia to play in the Down Under Hoops Classic. Young athletes have the opportunity to play against players from different states, and countries like; Australia, New Zealand, and in the past Chinese basketball teams. The trip is open to players ages 15 to 20 and family member any age goes. Coach Noreen has taken his 75 year old mother and had one mother bring her 2 year old child along.

Players do not have to be All-Star caliber in order to play and enjoy the trip. Minnesota Girls have won the Down Under Hoops Classic in 1999, 2004, and 2007. On the Minnesota Boys side, they have won in 1998, 2001, 2006.

Before and after the tournament players get to experience Australia, visit a wild life sanctuary, theme parks, enjoy the beach on the Gold Coast on the South Pacific (Australia's number one vacation area.) We have a free day while in Australia with a discount on other venues like deep sea fishing, snorkeling on the Great Barrier Reef, taking surfing lessons, tours of the Outback, Tours of the Rain Forest or just shopping in Australia's number one vacation area.

After seeing all the sites in Australia we fly out and stop off at Hawaii, for a three day/three night stay of fun in the sun.

We fly out of LAX with between 175 and 250 athletes and their families. It is open for parents and relatives that would like to experience Australia, and Hawaii for a great price.

The athletes are well taken care of, and stay in a four star accommodations. Price includes all transportation, lodging, food, all Australian tours, and a super luau while in Hawaii.

It is a great experience, the only complaint I've had is the sand was too hot in Hawaii! Great friendships are made and the trip is first class in every detail.

The coaching situation is still a mess in Hankinson with a school board meeting in an emotionally charged hearing. "Tears were freely shed." The Breakdown now has their Minnesota Girls Basketball preseason conference teams and players of the year posted.

BREAKDOWN FALL LEAGUE
The Braham 8th/9th graders that are mostly members of the Minnesota Stars 13U team from 2006/2007 were moved up to the JV Division this past weekend. They beat the Stillwater JV then lost a close one to one of the Eden Prairie JV teams

The Breakdown has listed their preseason top ten girls basketball players.

COACHING NEWS
DeLaSalle has added Cathy Behr to their staff. Behr played high school ball in Willmar and college ball at UM Crookston. She replaces April Calhoun who is now in London.

WISCONSIN OUTLOOK
The Wisconsin Sports Network has listed their preseason top teams: Grafton in D2, Cuba City in D3, and Flambeau in D4. D1 is yet to come.

NAIA POLLS
Mayville State checks in at #24 in the first NAIA poll this season. College of the Ozarks is #1.

A FAN'S OUTLOOK
I was up to the game last night and was impressed with MSU. Gophers might be a bit rough for them but MSU has a nice team also. MSU gave up 2 to 3 inches and 20 pounds in each area.
I am willing to say that MSU could see 20 + win season.
Since Lori Fish has been coaching (her fourth year) they have improved each year.
Her recruits are looking nice, she has a nice coaching staff in assistants Pam and Jess.
This is a program on the rise.
