At some point the cycle is broken. This game stopped the pattern where a team raced to a lead and then coasted to the win. The first part of the equation held, but there was no coasting in this game. Both teams had different routes to their points with PBN banking on free throws while KCH lived and died by the 3.

Pinnacle Bank Nebraska followed the regular script by jumping out to an 8-2 lead. The Kansas City Hustle fought back, basically holding steady as they closed to 14-9. PBN surged out to a 22-11 lead with 4:23 left in the first half and it looked as if the pattern that was the norm on Friday would hold sway again. After seven straight empty trips, KCH connected on five straight to put an end to that thinking. A 9-0 KCH run cut the margin to 22-20. PBN got some breathing room at the end of the half as they led 25-20.

Counting the last two possessions of the first half PBN scored six straight times as their lead mushroomed out to 34-25. KCH hustled back into the game behind the 3 ball. A 14-7 run put them right back at the cusp, trailing 41-39. KCH had three attempts to tie the game, but like Sisyphus, never could get over the hill. 45-43 was the last time KCH was an arm’s length from PBN. The last four minutes PBN milked the free throw line on a 17-10 run to close out the win. PBN scored on their last 10 possessions, with 13/14 free throws. Jasmin Corbin had 10 points in the last 3 minutes for PBN.

Stop me if you heard this before. The older, deeper, stronger Pinnacle Bank Nebraska squad schooled the Dakota Schoolers 86-39. PBN had five players over 140 pp100 with major possessions, and 8 with 100 or better. PBN controlled the boards and controlled the free throw line. They made 20 free throws while DS only shot 10.

Once, just once, the Schoolers led 2-0. After that PBN went on a 14-0 run and never looked back. The Schoolers had droughts of 11, and 8 in the first half which didn’t help their cause. By half time PBN had enough points to win the game as they led 41-12.

DS struggled still with their offensive in the second half. They had one 1/10 sequence. PBN continued to draw interest on their offensive account. With 12 players they didn’t have any players that were winded. The free throw parade wasn’t as long in the second half.
