COACHING HIRES
St. Francis has hired Jen Close as their new girls basketball coach. She was an assistant at St. Francis.

Esko has hired Jeff Antonuli (this could be misspelled) as their new girls basketball coach.

SPORTS FESTIVAL
Kanisha Rooks is headed to the USA Junior Nationals International Sports Festival in Columbus, Ohio from July 21-27. From the Rapid City Journal.

SUMMER WORK
The Oshkosh Northwestern looks at the Fox Valley Hustle and Megan Wenig and their summer.

The Eau Claire Leader Telegram looks at the summer contact period for high school coaches. In Wisconsin the limit is five days.

AAU NATIONALS
Michigan Fastbreak finished 9th in the 15u Division. From the Midland Daily News.

OUTDOOR BALL
Indiana beat the New York Liberty in the first professional outdoor basketball game. It was not an artistic success. However the atmosphere was positive. From the New York Times and Rethinking Basketball.
Now the question will be when will other teams go outside and play. I always hear about how short summer is and how fans don't want to be inside when it is so nice. Where would the Lynx set up court?

COACHING NEWS
ST. CLOUD STATE FINALISTS
Here are the two finalists for the St. Cloud State women's basketball coaching position--Lori Fish, current MSU Mankato coach and Paula Krueger, head coach at the Colorado School of Mines. From the St. Cloud Times.

UM DULUTH ASSISTANT
Jess Abrahams, a member of the Minnesota State University-Mankato coaching staff the past four years, has been named the new assistant women's basketball coach at the UM Duluth.

WESTERN MICHIGAN DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS
Lindsey Hass has been named Western Michigan Director of Operations for women's basketball. Hass played and coached at MSU Mankato and recently interned at Duke. Hass played her high school ball at Dover-Eyota.

ALL STAR GAMES
The "home" beat the "away" 42-39 in the Lenawee County All Star Game last night in Michigan. Catherine Herriman of Sand Creek was named MVP. From the Adrian Daily Telegram.

TRANSFER
Mary Sbrissa has left the Oregon women's basketball team and will transfer to New York Institute of Technology.

GAME TIME & CLEAN UP TIME
Iowa's Kachine Alexander is not only a player but a coach. She led her team to a 98-73 victory in the Game Time League in Iowa. Alexander played her high school ball at Benilde-St. Margaret's. From the Daily Iowan.
Also from the DI---The Iowa basketball team helped clean up Normandy Drive after the recent floods.

TAKE IT OUTSIDE
Former Gopher Janel McCarville (and current New York Liberty player) will take her game outside for the first pro game held outdoors today.

Summer Leagues Followed by Fall Leagues

SUMMER LEAGUES
LAKEVILLE NORTH
Lakeville North is 5-1 in the LNSL (beat Prior Lake, Red Wing, Eagan, DeLasalle and Hopkins) and lost by single digits to Eastview. Tournament starts on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. and concludes on Tuesday night July 8 at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Also Lakeville North is again traveling to Kearney, NE for the Miss Basketball Tournament on July 9-13th.

DEER RIVER
Bigfork is 7-1 in the Deer River Summer League. They lost to Deer River by two and beat them the same team by 25.

FALL LEAGUE
Yes Fall League. Summer isn't over and Fall Leagues are being planned.

Minneapolis Roosevelt is looking for eight more teams to sign up for the league which will start on Saturday August 30th and run through the entire month of September ending on the 27th.

The fee is 275.00 per team and each team will play two games each Saturday with the last Saturday serving as a tournament playoff date. All games will be played on Saturday mornings and afternoons at Minneapolis Roosevelt high school. Teams committed thus far: Mpls. Roosevelt, Mpls. South, Tartan, Columbia Heights. OUTDOOR BASKETBALL

COLLEGE DECISIONS
Cassy Schemberger of Park Falls, Wisconsin has signed with Lake Superior State. She averaged 20.6 ppg last year.

Bay Port girls basketball player Sam Femling will play for the University of Wisconsin-Parkside as a walk on. She is a 5-7 guard. From the Green Bay Press Gazette by way of the Appleton Post Crescent.

RECRUITING
I know this is an issue on the boys/men side, but True Hoop asks four questions about the recruiting wars, OJ Mayo, Colleges, NBA, shoes, and agents. If the situation is happening there, how soon will it infect the girls/women's side?

TRANSFER
Stephanie Rosado has left UTEP after one year and is headed to IPFW. Rosado is a 6-2 forward from Pontiac Central.

SUMMER LEAGUE
Summer Leagues are just around the corner. Lakeville North will have an 8 team summer league on Tuesdays starting June 10 for five weeks. Teams involved include Lakeville North, Prior Lake, Red Wing, Lakeville South, Eastview, Eagan, DeLaSalle, and Hopkins. Click on the above link for schedules.

Gladstone in the UP of Michigan is open. Peggy Beauchamp resigned after one year and a 5-15 record. From the Escanaba Daily Press.

ATHLETE OF THE YEAR
Hope Sevlie of Red Wing was named that school's athlete of the year. From the Red Wing Republican Eagle.

OUTDOOR BALL
The New York Liberty is hosting the first professional outdoor basketball game. The upcoming history-breaking “Liberty Outdoor Classic” will take place on Saturday, July 19th when the Liberty will play the Indiana Fever in what will be the first regular season outdoor game in professional basketball history. The game will take place at Arthur Ashe Stadium, the home of tennis' U.S. Open. A portion of the proceeds from the historic game’s ticket sales will go to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Former Gopher Janell McCarville is a member of the Liberty.
This is an idea I suggested to some of the Lynx office this winter. I think that this might be tried with more WNBA teams as the years go on. One of the big complaints I hear is that fans want to be outside in the summer. Now here is their chance.

MAKING THE WNBA
Wisconsin's Jolene Anderson (South Shore) has made the final cut to make the Connecticut Sun.

Penn State has the most WNBA players among Big 10 schools with four.
