PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Jazzmin Awa-Williams, Konawaena has been named Hawaiian player of the year by the Honolulu Advertiser. The paper also lists the rest of the squad.

TRANSFER
Iwalani Rodrigues will transfer from Roosevelt to Kalani. Rodrigues is an all state player and was named All Tournament at the End of the Trail tournament in Oregon. The Honolulu Advertiser has more.

WHAT CLASS?
In Hawaii a school is placed in a class by the league or conference, not the state association. So some large schools (think 2000) are placed in the same class as a school with 235 students. Ferd Lewis of the Honolulu Advertiser has an article on how the system needs to be fixed.

COACHING NEWS
There is a coaching mess at Kalani. Darold Imanaka is no longer the girls basketball coach and George Weeks has been hired. Imanaka led Kalani to the D2 championship in 2006 and to the D1 tournament this year. Kalani opened ALL coaching jobs last month. Lawyers are now involved.
A personal note: I have been in a situation where all the jobs were reopened and you needed to "reapply." It is just a gutless, spineless way for administrators to change coaches. My advice---run away from this school. The administrators are weak and you need to have some backing in the office.

Ashley Medcalf, Christian Academy and Jazzmin Awa-Williams, of Konawaena have been named to the Hawai'i High School Athletic Association Hall of Honor. 12 Athletes were named. BIG ISLAND RULES
The Big Island took both titles yesterday.
In the D1 Konawaena topped two time defending state champ Punahou 59-47. Konawaena used its iron five for 31+ minutes in the win.

In D2 Kamehameha-Hawai'i broke Sacred Hearts 57-30 for the title.

Here are the All tournament teams. 3rd place finisher Keisha Kanekoa, Honokaa was named MVP for the D1.

Finals Set in Hawaii

STATE TOURNAMENT FINALS SET
D1
Punahou keeps winning despite injuries. They beat Honokaa 47-41 to advance to the finals. Punahou is the two time defending state champ. They lost the Kuehe twins to ACL this year and have kept right on winning. Honokaa's Keisha Kanekoa had 32 of the 41 points (78%).

Konawaena beat Iolani 50-41 to reach the finals. Jazzmin Awa-Williams led the Big Island school with 27 points.

D2
Kamehameha-Hawai'i beat McKinley 73-53 to reach the finals.

Sacred Hearts hung on to beat Campbell 53-37 for their final ticket.

ROOSEVELT OUSTED
#1 seeded Roosevelt was bumped out of the D1 championship with Honoka'a prevailing 53-45.

Defending champ Punahou topped #4 seed Lahainaluna 66-47. Honoka'a faces Punahou today.

Iolani stopped Radford 50-39.

Konawaena defeated Kalani 58-46. Iolani now faces Konawaena in the semis.

D2 TOURNAMENT
Kamehameha-Hawai'i and McKinley advanced to the D2 semis.

Sacred Hearts and Campbell make up the other D2 semis.

yesterday was the play in games. Today the quarters.

Defending champs Punahou coasted past Farrington 62-37.

Kalani made the transition to D1 easily with a 64-37 win over Kuhuku.

Radford topped Maui 44-38, and Honokaa topped Moanalua 33-25. All the above from the Honolulu Advertiser.

Kailua bumped off Lanai in their first state trip 45-33.

State Tournament Week

The last spring tournament in Hawaii begins this week. Next year it moves to the winter like the rest of the country. Make sure you book your flight now.
Their are two classes with 12 teams in each tournament. Roosevelt is #1 in D1; Sacred Hearts #2 in D2. You will find more information in the Honolulu Advertiser with links to the brackets. First round is on Tuesday, Quarters Wednesday, Semis Thursday, and Finals on Friday.

OIA TITLES
Roosevelt won the OIA Red title for the second year in a row as they beat Radford 43-32. McKinley took the OIA White title 63-52 over Campbell. Both from the Honolulu Advertiser. You can see some post game comments from the players too from the Advertiser site.

Lana'i earned their first trip to the state tournament with a 33-24 win over Moloka'i in the Maui D2 final. From the Honolulu Advertiser.

Radford slipped by Kalani 39-38 in OIA tournament action. plus other recaps in the Honolulu Advertiser.
Roosevelt won an extremely low scoring 29-18 playoff contest with Farrington. Roosevelt held Farrington scoreless in the fourth quarter. Roosevelt trailed 18-16 heading into the final frame. Also from the Honolulu Advertiser.

La Pietra edged Christian Academy 44-42 in the ILH D2 semifinals yesterday. plus other recaps in the Honolulu Advertiser.

This is one of the few times all year that there are multiple paraders, and paraders all above 25 as well. Most of the year the Parade was either one player, but most of the time no one could cross the 22 point barrier.
