Nebraska beat Chadron State 102-30. Cory Montgomery (Cannon Falls) had 13 points for the Huskers as did Dominque Kelley (Lincoln Northeast). Alyssa Lyman (Campbell County, WY) had 13 points for CS.

Ohio beat OGBM 69-61 in overtime. Jenny Poff (St. Johns, MI) had 30 points for Ohio.

Colorado State beat Adams State 59-58. Kandy Beemer (Bedford, IA) had 6 for the Rams.

Alaska Anchorage beat Columbus State 53-39 in Orlando. Rebecca Kielpinski (Mandan, ND) had 16 points and 14 rebounds.

Tayler Hill will probably not be a Gopher. She is taking trips to Duke, Texas, Marquette and Rutgers. From the StarTribune.

METRO STARS OPEN TRYOUTS
The Minnesota Metro Stars will be holding open tryouts for their 16U Black and 16U White teams for the 2009 AAU season. Tryouts will be held at Bloomington Jefferson on September 14th and 21st. Over a period of years Metro Stars has established itself as one of the top basketball clubs in the midwest. If you feel that you can compete at the highest level we would love to see you at tryouts. GOPHERS IN ITALY
The Minnesota Gophers finished their Italian trip with a stop at Lake Como. Tanisha Smith and Marisa Moseley have blog wraps. The Gophers were 3-0 on their trip with a 108-18 win over a Swiss team

Tiffanie Porter of Des Moines East has verballed Northern Iowa. The 5-6 guard averaged 7 ppg for the 14-6 Scarlets last year.
Porter is the 6th player from the Iowa 2009 class to verbal. All are D1.

PRO SIGNINGS
Former Gopher and Hopkins player Leslie Knight has signed a pro basketball contract with Canti Riva Basket team in Riva, Switzerland.

Former North Dakota State and Austin player Lisa Bue has signed a pro basketball contract with Zeljeznicar a team from Sarajevo in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

FISH WELCOMED
New St. Cloud State coach Lori Fish met the press and community yesterday.

COACHING NEWS
Tim Connealy has been named the new women's basketball coach at Chadron State. He was an assistant at UN Kearney. From the Rapid City Journal.

HOOP IT UP
Team Basketball Plus will be playing in the Hoop It Up 3 on 3 Tournament this weekend in the Div. 17 Bracket. The team is comprised of Theairra Taylor(St. Paul Central), Cassie Rochel(Lakeville North), Hana Potter(Hopkins), Tina Fisher(Park of Cottage Grove) and Carissa Wolyniec (DeLaSalle). Action takes place near Dunwoody College August 9 and 10.

INJURIES
DePere's Claire Steffen tore an anterior cruciate ligament in a knee during a tournament in Chicago last month. The injury occured with three seconds left in a blowout. From the Green Bay Press Gazette.

Boler Out

BOLER INJURED
Shakila Boler has injured her knee and will be out for the summer and the winter season. Boler hurt her knee in the Blue Star Camp in Chicago last week. Boler tore her MCL and stretched the ACL.
Boler (a 2010 guard) plays with Bloomington Kennedy in the winter and North Tartan Larson during the AAU season. She averaged 16 ppg last year for the 21-7 Eagles. They finished second in the 2AAAA section.
Boler verballed the Minnesota Gophers last September.

KNEE INJURIES
The New York Times looks at ACL knee injuries and the female athlete. It is comprehensive and thorough. The article starts off with soccer, but touches on all sports. It also hits on youth sport culture (page 8) and asks At what age should a young athlete begin traveling to out-of-town tournaments? How many days a week should she be playing? When should she give up her other sports? Specialization, country clubs, and coaching are all touched upon.

POLICE BLOTTER
Dave Johnson, the DePere girls basketball coach, has been charged with disorderly conduct after a March incident with a student. From the Green Bay Press Gazette.

COACHING NEWS
Annette Wiles has been named the new women's basketball coach at UM Duluth. She was the coach at Fort Hays State, a D2 school in Kansas.

Mike Johnson has been hired as girls basketball coach at South Winnieshiek in Iowa.

AWARDS

AWARDS
Jenna Smith of Illinois (Bloomington Kennedy) was named player of the week for the third time this year in the Big 10.

Rachel Porath of UW Green Bay (Luxemburg-Casco) was named player of the week for the second week in a row in the Horizon Conference and third overall.

Ashley Langen of North Dakota (Kittson Central) was named player of the week in the North Central Conference. It is her 6th honor.

The Clayton, Wisconsin girls basketball team won their 68th straight regular season game December 21st by defeating St Croix Falls 68-27 behind Brittni Hover's 21 points. Hover also hit four threes which put her over 200 for her career.

Georgie Jones of St. Paul Central, Megan Corradi of Chisago Lakes, Madeline Ehrich of Concordia Bloomington, and Jackie Voigt of Park-Cottage Grove have been named playmakers in the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

MIDNIGHT BASKETBALL
DeLaSalle will be holding a 24 hour fund raiser for the 35W bridge collapse starting October 12 at 5 pm. 24 basketball games will be taking place with first responders, professionals, even politicians participating. No word if Jack Bauer will be there. From the StarTribune.

INJURIES
The Sioux Falls Argus Leader has a piece about the upsurge in injuries with 11% of players missing at least one game due to an injury. Trainers, prevention, and the year round nature of sports all get examined.

BASKETBALL LEADERSHIP SOCIAL
Community Hoops Events productions have received a large donation which will allow them to reduce the cost of the basketball leadership event on Sept 22. Tickets that were $35 are now $15. The 28 tickets that have been sold thus far will receive a refund at the door when they check in. Only 52 seats remain. The event is open to players, coaches, fans.
The event will be held at the Minneapolis Washburn Community Library from noon to 4:30.
Speakers include Minnesota Women's Basketball Associate Head coach Barb Smith; DeLaSalle, and gbbrecruit coach of the summer 07 Brian Frye; Hopkins coach Brian Cosgriff; former Gopher Kim Bell; and strength coach Missy Lott.
