NOLAN SHOCKS LYNX
Detroit Guard Deana Nolan scored 44 points in a 98-93 overtime thriller over the Lynx. From the Detroit News.

POINT GUARDS PART 3

COACHING NEWS
Dakota State women's basketball coach Jeff Dittman will now be the women's basketball coach at Hastings College. From the Madison Daily Leader and the Grand Island Independent.

Brittany Lange of Iowa State will be a student coach for the next two seasons. She played her high school ball at Sac City, Iowa.

Matt Bessen has been named girls basketball coach at Oshkosh North. Besson was the coach at Fond du Lac St. Mary's last four years.

Bob Kolakovich has been named girls basketball coach at Carsonville-Port Sanilac, Michigan. Kolakovich had been the boys coach at CPS for five years. From the Port Huron Times Herald.

SHIRTLESS IN WISCONSIN
Fans can go shirtless and paint their bodies again in Wisconsin. From the Appleton Post-Crescent.

SCHEDULE
The WIAA has expanded the basketball schedule by two games from 20 to 22. From the Janesville Gazette.

The Gophers have released their 2008-09 non conference schedule. They open the season on Nov. 14 at Stanford.

AWARDS
Jolene Anderson has been named Wisconsin's Female Athlete of the Year.

Samantha McGee of Bloomington Jefferson has been named the StarTribune's female Scholar Athlete of the Year. McGee was involved with girls basketball, swimming, and softball. Her GPA was 4.15.

GRANNY BALL
The Daily Iowan (the University of Iowa newspaper) looks at Granny Ball. There is no dunking in Granny Ball.

Arrest in Mexico

ARRESTED IN MEXICO
Kelsey Peterson, the Lexington, Nebraska assistant girls basketball coach and middle school teacher was arrested in Mexico with a 13 year old male student. From the AP.

COACHING MILESTONE
Adrian girls basketball coach Randy Strand has been recognized for his 25 years of coaching by the Minnesota Coaches Association. From the Nobles County Review.

LATE VERBAL
This isn't necessarily recent, but Brynn Larsen of Oconto Falls, WI has verballed Northern Michigan. The D2 Panthers were 14-8 last year. The 5-8 guard played with the Legends this summer.
Larsen is the 12th player in the Wisconsin 2008 class to have verballed and the 5th to verbal a D2 school.

GRANNY BALL
The Grannies beat Kenyon-Wanamingo teachers and staff on a last second basket by Elise Halvorson 46-45. From the Rochester Post Bulletin.
