Junior Forward Laura Maltby had 10 points, 4 rebounds and 4 steals and Senior Center Britta Syverson finished with 9 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 steals as well. More Mercy: The Northfield News looks at the mercy rule. By the way there were 7 teams that on average LOST by 35+ last year:
AAA: St. Paul Harding
A: ECHO; Community of Peace; Oh Day Aki; Four Directions; Swanville; Fond du Lac Ojibwe
There were no teams that made the list in AAAA or AA.
There were many teams that on average lost by 25 or more.
I saw two of those teams last season (Harding, Swansville) and they both would have had the clock run in the games I watched.

The Grand Forks Herald looks at 1000 point scorers in Northwest Minnesota. They look at the reason for the increase in the 1000 point club. They should have added #4 games are four minutes longer now.

“More Than a Game,” an Iowa Public Television documentary about 6-6 girls basketball in Iowa, will air Sunday, March 2 at 6:30. The Mason City Globe Gazette has more details.

SURPRISE
Devils Lake suffered a big injury when Ashley Privatsky went down in the first game, but the Firebirds have surprised a few fans. From the Devils Lake Journal.

Kiah Logan of Rochester Faith Christian made eleven 3s Tuesday as RFC beat Rochester Home School 82-53. Logan had 39 points on the night. This would put her second on the Minnesota list, two behind Sari Noga of Parkers Prairie who had 13 vs Rothsay on January 4, 2008.

Abby Burger, Cedar Rapids Jefferson scored her 1,000th point during a regional game on Feb. 16th when they beat Iowa City West 56-45.

LAST NIGHT
Apple Valley came up with yet another win over a ranked opponent, beating #8 Chaska 72-68. On senior night, Apple Valley was led by senior post, Christina Steele, with 28 points and 15 rebounds. Steele was capping off her 6th year of varsity ball and will leave Apple Valley as the 2nd leading rebounder and 2nd leading scorer in school history. Apple Valley trailed late in this game by 15, by a score of 38-53, but outscored Chaska 34-15 in the last part of the second half. Sophomore post Erica Gress added 8 points and 12 rebounds for the Eagles, while Courtney Boylan led Chaska with 19 points. Apple Valley finishes the season 13-13, with a record of 13-7 in their last 20 games.

Courtney Boylan of Chaska topped the 2000 mark with 16 in a 50-47 loss to Lakeville North yesterday. She is only the 2nd player in Lake conference history to achieve this feat, the other being Liz Podominick of Lakeville.
Boylan is the 6th Minnesota player to make the mark this year.
