6AA EAST SUBSECTION SEMIS
ALBANY huskies 82, BBE jaguars 52

First off a warning. I am only going to put up the brief summary tonight and back fill later tomorrow. The candle is about to meet in the middle. I have not had a great day.
Also the roads were slow going up. I didn't arrive at St. John's until the 12:00 mark of the first half. For those around the country the Twin Cities got socked with snow and what usually takes 20 minutes took 35. Anyhow...

When I arrived Sam Larsen was sitting and Taylor Voss soon joined her. That may have indicated Albany was having a rough time. Not really. The score was 12-2 and that lead kept building throughout the night. Jennie Noreen and Hannah Hylla provided most of the offense I saw in the first half. Albany was quick to the ball, got their hands on a lot of passes, and aggressively attacked the basket on offense. It was 40-14 at half.

Just a week ago I saw BBE. The result was different and that was due to Albany. Most of Albany's starters were down with 8 minutes left. The score at that point was 65-27. The one thing I think that was interesting was Heidi Lensing of BBE had four &1 opportunities in the second half. It looked like she could have had five but the officials waved it off. Most of these happened in the second half when the Albany bench was in. When I was tabulating Lensing ended up with 21 points. Jennie Noreen for Albany had 20 at half and 24 for the game.

BBE pulled an upset knocking off Class A #7 Hancock 60-47 in a non-conference clash in Brooten. Hancock suffered through a icy first half as BBE led at half 28-13. BBE is now 17-8. Hancock, the #2 seed in 6A South, is now 19-4.

Coach Teas ended his one day hold out and we were off to the west for this game. The skies were absolutely clear and the mainline roads were a snap, but once we got on the county roads the driving became a little more white knuckle. Luckily we stayed on the road and passed through the metropolis of Padua without problems.

Hancock had a miserable first half. They had droughts of 10 and 8 in a 2/25 sequence. Their pp100 in the first 25 possessions was 20.0 and a floor % of .080. Hancock was missing Lindsie Cunningham who is out with a foot injury. Also Jenny Noordmans returned from an illness. The timing may have been off. Nevertheless the BBE 3/2 zone kept Hancock off balance. The Jaguars prevented the ball from getting inside, and was very aware of the prime long range shooters. BBE did not have problems out of the gate. After two non scoring possessions they ran off four straight scores to go up 8-2, the last two scores from Lindsay Goodwin. During the first 10 possession Hancock spell 6 ended up as turnovers. The Owls only coughed the ball up twice in the second 8 possession drought. At that stage it was 20-5 with 6:45 left in the half. Hancock was even with BBE the rest of the half 8-8. At the break it was 28-13. One of the problems for Hancock was only two players had field goals. Bree Holleman had 9 of the 13 points and 3 of the 4 field goals. In fact for the game only one other Owl other than Holleman and Noordmans was able to get a field goal.

BBE enjoyed their biggest lead after the first possession in the second half at 30-13. Then BBE turned cold with a 1/9 sequence. Hancock came out revved up at the start of the second half and played with a greater sense of urgency. They went on a 19-8 tear and closed to 38-32 with 11 minutes left. That was as close as it was going to get. Holleman contributed 13 of those points with 9 coming from behind the arc. Two possessions later Goodwin put BBE back up by 8, and on the next Jaguar possession Missy Montbriand swiped the ball from Noordmans and converted the lay up for a double digit lead. Hancock was not able to close the gap after that. Every time the Owls would make a move, BBE responded.

BBE attacked the Hancock press with unorthodox methods. They would go deep and cross court, yet they were able to convert on some of those unconventional press breaks. They had 10 points off the press break, six points off steals to lay ups, and 10 more on plain old transition after a rebound. So 26 points came via transition. Hancock had 6 points via transition, a difference of 20 points.

Interesting to note both teams defensive wrap leader started the game on the bench.

DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE
Both teams used zones. BBE stayed in their 3/2 all night.
Hancock started off 2/3 used 1/2/2 and also a 2/2/1 full court press. At various times they would double the ball.
