1AAAA QUARTERFINALS
LAKEVILLE NORTH panthers 53,

ROCHESTER JM rockets 44

#3 seed Lakeville North opened their postseason with a strong defensive effort over #6 Rochester JM. This was a replay of the Rochester Rotary Tournament final which was won by LN 48-42. The win snapped a two game losing streak by LN. LN is now 18-9. RJM lost for the first time in five games and finished the year 16-9.

Also in 1AAAA #1 seed Rosemount beat #8 Hastings 67-44.

LN scored on their first possession on a free throw by Latasha Wittmayer. There were six lead changes. JM's Nytor Longar scored the first six points for JM, four on putbacks. JM tied it at 7 on Maija Schmelzer's free throw, but on the second (which did go in) Longar stepped in the lane to quickly. After that RJM went into offensive hibernation with 12 non scoring possessions, 9 of which were turnovers against the hassling LN pressure. LN went on an 8-0 run during the period. Six of those points came by the hand of Rachel Banham on two 3s. RJM did charge back on a 10-2 run over 2:20 minutes. Samantha Sikkink tied it with a three from the right wing. She had two 3s in the run and 7 points total in the run. Cassie Rochel immediately answered for LN on a secondary break post up. LN pushed the lead back to 24-19 on a 3 from Micahael Goris. RJM had a 7-3 run to finish the half with Katherine Block knocking down a 3 from the left wing as time expired. LN led 27-26 at half.

LN never trailed in the second half. RJM did test the lead. LN led 39-30 after Wittmayer's post up. Three straight RJM scores tightened the game to 39-36. Longar had four of the 6-0 run points. Again Rochel answered for LN and once again they stretched the margin out to 45-36. RJM wasn't finished yet and closed the margin to 47-43 with 1 minute to go after a drive by Camille Stenhaug. LN finished their scoring at the line and did so three straight possessions. Banham delivered four points at the line, Sygulla two for the final margin 53-44.

LN's defense prevented their 1000 point scorer Camille Stenhaug from getting on track early. Nothing was easy. RJM ball handlers didn't like the attention.
For the fourth time this year I saw LN. Their numbers have been pretty consistent. They have been in the window of 77.3 to 87.9 pp100. Their floor % has also been between .373 and .429, On the defensive end LN is between 61.3 to 77.9 and floor % .293 to .368. Owatonna, their potential opponent is the high end defensively.
