This game took place Saturday, July 15
Semifinals Blue Division Rogers Showcase
Rogers 44, New London-Spicer 27

Rogers jumped out to an 8-0 lead with the first six scored by Casey Mann. Mann eventually ended up with 29. NLS endured a seven possession drought at the start of the game, 4 of which were turnovers. They scored the next 7 points in the game to cut the lead to 8-7. NLS pulled ahead on #11's second 3 of the game. But that was to be NLS's last lead of the game. Rogers had a 5 possession string leading to a 10-0 run. Three transition lay ups by Casey Mann helped their cause. NLS was not helped by the fact they had an 8 possession drought right before half. #11 broke up the curse with two free throws. Rogers led 21-14 at half, Mann had 17 for Rogers.

NLS's #22 canned a three to start the scoring in the second half, but that was as close as the score was going to be. NLS had another 8 possession drought in the early part of the 2nd half. During the time Rogers had a 10-0 run. The press was causing problems as NLS had six straight possessions with turnovers. Later on Rogers worked on their delay game as NLS had nothing in the tank left.

BY THE NUMBERS
Rogers 44, 45, 97.8, .467
New London-Spicer 27, 46, 58.7, .261

Rogers had been to the Wisconsin Team camp and did quite well there. Their passing was sharper and their defense more intense. Mann was a thorn in the side for NLS. Both teams opened in zones, later on Rogers varied it up with some of their traps. Rogers was more aggressive on offense and it showed with 9 made free throws to 5 for NLS. Both teams had three 3s. Both teams showed some patience on offense looking for the primo shot.

The main difference between AAU/All Star teams vs HS play in the summer is the pace/speed of the game. There was a noticable difference in tempo and it wasn't all due to the running clock. For those of you old enough to know the record lingo it was 33 1/3 to the 45 rpm of AAU.

Next up: Tomorrow morning with the general news of the day.
