MN SECTION TOURNAMENT UPDATES
AAAA
8: Two upsets in this section. #3 Bemidji lost at home to Brainerd 49-44. #4 St. Cloud Apollo lost at home to Elk River 76-58. Elk River will take on St. Cloud Tech next. They beat SCT in the Elk River Christmas Tournament 60-56, one of only two losses by SCT all year. SCT has lost by a combined six points this year. Moorhead also won last night and will face Brainerd. Semis are at Wadena on Saturday night.

AAA
2: everybody did what they needed to do. Marshall will face Mankato East in the semis. Worthington takes on Litchfield. Semis are Saturday at Gustavus in St. Peter.
4: All higher seeded teams advance. The closest call was Annandale's last second win over Sartell. St. Michael-Albertville will take on Annandale and Monticello takes on Becker. Monticello and Becker split on the year with Monticello winning the last match up 41-33. semis are Saturday night at Buffalo.
7: no mystery here, all higher seeds advanced. Hibbing will take on Grand Rapids. Hibbing beat GR by 20 on J13. Hermantown faces Duluth East. Hermantown defeated DE 81-68 on F9. Semis are Friday night at Duluth Denfeld.

AA
1: Rochester Lourdes beat Pine Island 41-33 and Caledonia beat St. Charles 46-38. Both winners were #2s. This sets up Kingsland vs Lourdes and Winona Cotter vs Caledonia on Saturday on Saturday. Lourdes gave Kingsland it's only loss of the year on J21 58-52. Cotter beat Caledonia on D13 81-73.
2: The only upset here was in the east bracket with #6 Blooming Prairie edging #3 Waterville-Elysian-Morristown 42-41. Hayfield will face Kenyon-Wanamingto and NRHEG takes on Blooming Prairie Friday at Waseca. Everyone passed their test in the west. MVL plays LeSueur-Henderson, and Blue Earth takes on Fairmont Friday at Mankato West.
3: I stated Benson was on thin ice on Monday. Tuesday the crashed through as Lac Qui Parle Valley beat the #1North team 62-51. They will face MACCRAY Friday in Montevideo. In the South Pipestone will face St. James in Worthington.
5: All top seeds advanced in the South end. #1South Watertown-Mayer had a close call with Delano with an 8 point margin. WM plays Mayer Lutheran, and Glencoe-Silver Lake plays Norwood-Young America Thursday. In the North Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa was upset by Maple Lake 76-56. Eden Valley-Waktins will face Maple Lake, and New London-Spicer will take on Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted Thursday at Dassel-Cokato.
6: Pine City beat Hinckley-Finlayson in a 5/4 upset. They will face Foley, and Braham will play Pierz Thursday. Everything went according to seed on the West side with Albany playing Staples-Motley, and Holdingford facing Minnewaska at St. John's Thursday.

A
1: #6 Rushford-Peterson continued their upsetting ways as they took out Lanesboro 42-40. They will see Elgin-Millville Friday in Rochester. Goodhue won as expected and play Bethlehem Academy in the west finals also Friday in Rochester.
2: All the top seeds moved on in the North. Cedar Mt will play Lester Prairie and Sleepy Eye St. Mary's will play New Ulm Cathedral at Martin Luther college in New Ulm on Friday. In the South all adavanced as well. Nicollet will face Springfield, GHEC will play St. Clair at St. James on Friday.
3: #1 Lakeview was knocked out by RTR 53-47. In the next issue of MN Basketball News I had selected Lakeview to win the state. I stated it was a half court shot. Well that shot was an air ball that was way short. RTR will play Lincoln HI Friday at SW State in Marshall. In the South #1 Murray County Central avoided the same fate as Lakeview with a 60-58 squeaker by Adrian. Adrian had a chance, but the magic of Saturday ran out. Fulda downed SW MN Christian for the right to face MCC for the South Championship again at SW State in Marshall on Friday.
5: in a play in game most favored won, but Wheaton-Herman-Norcross upset CGB for the right to face Ortonville. This section names four #1s.
7: no surprises in the play in games here. quarters are today.
8: one upset in the play in games as EGF Sacred Heart took out Kittson County North. EGF SH will now play BGMR on Thursday at Northland CC in Thief River Falls.
