Out & About: IKM/SE Webster-Grand

#4 posting 3.5.2006

1A Iowa Quarterfinal game #1
IKM 63, SE Webster-Grand 45

In the highest scoring game in 1A IKM used not only their size, but their speed as well to advance to Wednesday’s semifinal game. IKM averages 5-11.2 for a starting line up and starts 6-4 and 6-2.

IKM got off to a fast start and never trailed in the game. Bailey Schechinger opened the scoring for IKM. But it was Margo Muhlbauer that did the most damage in the opening 8 minutes with 14 points. Jennifer Jorgensen for SE Webster-Grand was doing all she could to keep her team in the game as she scored five. Actually both teams looked a little jittery, but IKM relaxed by running the floor. IKM led 19-7 at the break.

SEW-G actually outscored IKM in the second stanza 19-18. Jorgensen again was the scoring force for SEW-G with 11 points. It also helped that Maddison Hansen and Wendi Grettenberg scored from behind the arc. Muhlbauer cooled off some with only six points. Bailey Schechinger topped IKM for the quarter with 8. IKM led 37-26 at half.

The the scoring started to slow down with a 10-9 IKM advantage. IKM did have a four possession string early in the quarter where they pushed the lead to 45-31 after an 8-3 run. They also put together another four possession string on a 6-0 run. These actually were the longest strings IKM put together. In the early quarters they only scored at best in strings of 3. IKM led after 3 53-35.

It was an even fourth quarter at 10-10. Muhlbauer added 7 more points to her total of 31 for the game. Matching her was her counter part for SEW-G Jorgensen with 7 to add to her 28 points.

Height Matters: IKM 5-11.2 that equals Bloomington Kennedy’s starting height in MN AAAA.; SEW-G 5-7.2. IKM had four inches over their opponent
Department of defense: IKM actually played man with SEW-G forced to later
