Out & About: St. Paul Central/Woodbury

#6 posting 3.5.2006

St. Paul Central 58, Woodbury 47

Central faced Woodbury in the sections and came away a winner. They had previously lost to Woodbury in section play.

SPC was out early with a 5-1 lead. They scored on their first two possessions, but that didn't last very long as Woodbury tied it up at five. Woodbury grabbed it's first lead at 10-9 on Kallmann's banked 3. Angel Robinson answered right back with an unbanked 3 from the left side. Another 3, this time by Abby Gust of SPC built the lead up to 15-10. Woodbury then went on a 7-0 run as Kallmann made an old fashioned three to put the Royals back in the lead 17-15. SPC put together a four possession string and 9-2 run to take a 30-23 lead. Four different players provided help in that run. Woodbury closed with four points to make it 30-27 at half. It was little noted at the time but Zoraa Quoie's high school career ended in the first half. She was playing on an injured leg and was not herself.

It was Woodbury's turn to score on their first two possessions with Hintz scoring on both possessions and both times she did it with strong drives to the glass. This was the last time Woodbury would lead at 31-30. Buford gave the lead back to SPC for good after Robinson found her on a back cut against the zone 34-32. Not much later SPC put together a five possession string and a 10-2 run to make the score 46-36. Gust had five of those points, and Buford added three. After that point the lead never dropped below 10 as the game slipped into maintainance mode.
