Out & About: Des Moines Roosevelt/Linn-Mar

#1 posting 3.9.2006

Iowa State Tournament 4A Quarterfinals game #1
Des Moines Roosevelt 57, Linn-Mar 35

Roosevelt worked inside early and often and took the lead from Linn-Mar on MyKenya Johnson's rebound and basket off of Charmaine Bell's missed shot. She added a free throw as she was fouled. Both teams were very deliberate early milking quite a bit of time from the clock. DM Roosevelt led 11-6 after one period.

The second quarter saw big droughts for both teams. LM had an 0/8 stretch from the start. DMR did them one better with 0/9. Both had three turnovers in this dry spell. LM shook out of it first with a four possession string and 7-3 run. Jaime Printy was the catalyst and seemed to be the only LM player that was able to generate anything all day. LM closed to 15-13, but Roosevelt closed with a 6-3 run to end the quarter with Bell finishing it off with a layup 21-16.

MyKenya Johnson dominated the third quarter and owned the paint. She had 10 points in 8 minutes and five possessions. She scored on post moves, and only one on a put back.

To start the fourth quarter Roosevelt had a 7/8 posssession string and outscored LM 13-8. LM never got closer than 13 the last quarter and were forced to foul. The upset was complete at 57-35

Height Matters: DMR 6-0, LM 5-9.4. with a 6-5 player and smallest players listed at 5-10 Roosevelt is big. However walking the back hall after the game the players were at least an inch smaller than listed.
