#3 posting 3.18.2006
MN A Championship
Fulda 57, GHEC 49
Fulda won it’s first championship 57-49 over GHEC. It was a battle between two #2 subsection seeds. It was also the second state championship for a section 3 team in the last three years. The key break point came in the first half when GHEC went silent for eight possessions. GHEC missed six shots in that stretch, and they were only getting one chance as Fulda controlled the boards. Fulda had a 9-0 run during this stretch to give them a 21-12 lead. They did not relinquish it the rest of the night. Sam Raddle had five points during that stretch, including a 3 to break a 12-12 tie. Sarah Raddle tickled the twine for three 3s in the first half. It was 31-20 at half with the Raddles combining for 20.
In the second half GHEC had another 7 possession dry patch. Fulda wasn’t exactly on fire only pushing the lead to 38-25. Sarah Raddle’s three gave Fulda it’s biggest lead at 41-25. GHEC mounted its comeback at this point and went on a 13-1 run to cut the lead to 42-38. GHEC had a four possession string in the run. Katy Uttech and Abby Shoen each had four for GHEC. Fulda pushed the lead back to seven at 46-39 on Nicole Gunderman’s two free throws with 4:49 left. GHEC had one last run in them and cut the lead to 48-45 on one free throw from Abby Shoen with 4:02 left. But GHEC never got the stop it desperately needed. Laura Kramer scored on the next Fulda possession to put the lead back at five. It became a foul/free throw event at this point with Fulda making their last seven points at the line. One key point was when the score was 53-45 and Sam Raddle missed her second free throw. Kaitlyn Kramer grabbed the board and eventually Nicole Gunderman made two more free throws for a total of three points on the possession and a 55-45 lead with 1:20 left.
