Iowa Synopsis

#2 posting 3.7.2006

Today’s games had fans on the edge right to the end. This is what March madness is about. It is also what March sadness is about. Two games were decided on the last possession. The #1 2A team in the state went down. And in the last game of the morning/afternoon session what seemed to be a comfortable lead melted down before they gained traction.
The evening action wasn't as dramatic but the first game was in question in the fourth quarter but Harlan pulled away for a 45-37 win. They get the enjoyable task of playing Ballard who bombed Carroll Kuemper Catholic 70-51.

In the first game of the morning Kelsey Bolte of Battle Creek-Ida Grove made the money shot as time expired and BCIG beat Wapsie Valley 59-57.
The next game saw the stunner of #1 rated Davenport Assumption falling to Audubon 72-66.
The afternoon session also had nail biters with Kelsi Karkosh of Cedar Rapids Xavier making a free throw with 0.04 seconds left in the game in a 30-29 win over Spirit Lake.
In the last game Norwalk held off a hard charging Decorah team 56-43. Decorah came to within 47-43 with 2:10 to go before the free throw parade kicked in.

Now the 2A and 3A semis are set: In 2A North Butler takes on undefeated AGSWR Thursday at 1 pm. Battle Creek-Ida Grove and Audubon play at 2:30 Thursday.
In 3A it will be Cedar Rapids Xavier taking on Norwalk Thursday night at 6:30. Following at 8 pm will be Harlan vs the undefeated Ballard Bombers.
