#4 posting 3.5.2006 from Des Moines, Iowa
Bloomington Kennedy 66, Eastview 44
Kennedy never trailed in this matchup between two Lake conference foes. This is the third year in a row Kennedy ended Eastview's season.
In this first half Eastview had a early 0/7 drought as Kennedy was building a 12-5 lead. Six of the Kennedy points came on second chance points as the taller Eagles dominated the boards at both ends all day. Eastview did draw close to 17-14 on a 9-5 run Brittany Rud had four of those points mainly off of the pass. Kennedy closed the half with a 14-7 run and held a 31-21 lead at half.
Kennedy's margin never dropped below 10 and so the suspense in the game was lacking. Kennedy did put together an impressive 10/11 possession string over a 6:30 span in the second half. Jenna Smith had 9 points during the power surge including a 3 from the top of the key. Kennedy outscored Eastview 22-8 during this stretch. Eastview had another drought of 0/7, something Kennedy never experienced.
The Kennedy front line outscored the Eastview front line 47-5. Two Eastview front line starters failed to score.
Height Matters: Kennedy 5-11.2, Eastview 5-10.2
Department of defense: Kennedy man; Eastview started 2/3 but then had to resort to man

Bloomington Kennedy Player Evaluations
Starters
Tera Steinbauer 15, 12, 125.0, .667 As with all the Kennedy front line can step away and face the basket. As with all the Kennedy front line strong upper body, won't be pushed around. Kennedy's front line is the best in the state. RF: The weird thing is looking at the numbers and experiencing the game I think she is capable of more. again her numbers were good. That is not good for the rest of the state.
Kesha Brown 2, 4, 50.0, .250 starting now. Active. Knows to get the ball to the big girls up front. RF: non descript
Tasha Mrosak 9, 5, 180.0, .600 top notch defender taking away players favorite comfort moves. Hit some 3s to keep the defense from completely collapsing in on the paint. glue that holds Kennedy together. RF: needs to be consistent from the 3 line.
Ashly Robinson 10, 13, 76.9, .385 moves well, strong, can shoot outside. RF: today's performance was adequate.
Jenna Smith 22, 17, 129.4, .647 big time player with big time heart, desire and fight. In and out side. Obviously very tough inside. anticipates well on defense and has decent speed. She is looking strong at the end of the year. RF: too minisicule to be of use.
Bench
Shakila Boler 8, 7, 114.3, .571 has come far from the first time I saw her. She is one of the 8th grade class in the Lake that will be famous. not afraid to shoot. quick. RF: experience. May not handle pressure with right decisions.
Heather MacPhie 0, 1, 0.0, .000

Janine Oxley 22, 17, 129.4, .529 very nice shooting today. drained four 3s on the day. had 14 points in the second half. RF: need to see consistency with days like today the norm, not the exception. Ball handling/decisions. Eyes are down when under pressure.
Cassie Johnson 5, 9, 55.6, .333 shot blocker. RF: needs to get stronger. needs to aggressively attack and not do all the finesse moves. She may have been ill as she was grabbing her shorts after only 1:45 gone in the second half.
Bench
Sam Mehr 0, 2, 0.0, .000
Brittany Rud 6, 7, 85.7, .429 best at spot up zone shooting. RF: needs speed/quickness work.

This will now set up the epic confrontation between South and Kennedy. Much has been said about the seeding meetings. I will say straight up the Lake is so much more superior to the Minneapolis conference as a whole. That doesn't mean there are bad players in the city, but as a whole the teams in the Lake do not have bad four and five players like in Minneapolis.
The speed/quickness of the guards of South vs the power and height inside of Kennedy. South will have to go against the man defense as they will not get too many open looks. They also will be limited to one shot. The danger for Kennedy will be in the foul department. If some of the big front line sit, South may be able to exploit the situation. The South press will cause a turnover or two perhaps, but not like what happened to Apple Valley. Kennedy has too much height and they will use it to throw over the top. Kennedy looks to return to state.
Next up Tartan and Cretin-Derham Hall
