Out & About: Norwalk/Decorah

#1 posting 3.8.2006

Iowa Girls Basketball Tournament 3A Quarterfinals game #2
Norwalk 56, Decorah 43

Again I will probably come back and retro fit some information in her, but it is past midnight. I have at least four games I'm watching here in Des Moines and Minneapolis tomorrow. Add in the drive back and I need my rest.

Here is the quick hit
For most of the night Norwalk led. Decorah held the lead once in the first and in the second quarter. Norwalk led 42-27 at the start of the fourth quarter as they outscored Decorah 12-2 in the third quarter. Having a drought of quarter proportions is not a wise policy in the state tournament. The fourth quarter it started to rain for Decorah. They opened with five scoring possessions and a run of 10-2. Norwalk still led 44-37 but there was 3:29 left and things weren't as smooth sailing as they once were. Decorah had another quick run of four possessions. The problem for Decorah these scoring possessions were one free throw here, one free throw there. Regardless they cut the Norwalk lead to 47-43. That was to be their last scoring adventures as Norwalk finished with a 9-0 run in the last 2:02.

Height Matters: Decorah 5-9.6, Norwalk 5-8.8

Norwalk Player Evaluations
Starters
Hannah Noel
12, 19, 63.2, .315 RF: this player takes too many shots, at the wrong time, with many great players that can shoot around her. Also dribbles too much and that is not what you want your point guard to do.

Krista Walker 9, 6, 150.0, .500
Kelsey Cermak 13, 11, 118.2, .545 Big time player, moves well, jumps, athletic.
Jessica Fraser 12, 6, 200.0, .833 used what little possessions she had to great use. RF: didn't have possessions in the second half. That may be because she wasn't open or didn't get offensive rebounds. Needs to be more active and assert herself.
