SOUTH DAKOTA RIDERS 63, IOWA LIGHTNING I 57
South Dakota Riders is in reality Sioux Falls Roosevelt, one of the two high school teams in the tournament. The other was Prairie Shooters which is Mandan, ND. For those that have followed this site the Riders are known as the 'Stangs when they come up to Minnesota for tournaments.
This game featured two teams that would not make the final eight. One other bit of trivia: this was one of the highest possession games in the tournament that I charted with 73, and 74 possessions each.
SDR had a 14-6 run, on a seven possession string, to go up 19-14. SDR extended that lead to 25-14. The three game was working for the Riders with four 3s in the half. Shaunteva Ashley had 9 points at ther break as SDR led 33-25.
SDR led the entire second half with about 10 point margin early. ILI did mount one challenge as they cut the lead to 55-51 with 2:46 left. It was tight all the way down to 1:16 left. SDR finished off the game with four free throws by Ashley.
