IBCA SELECT WINS MISS BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT
The IBCA Iowa Select Team completed a memorable weekend at the Miss Basketball Showcase in Kearney, NE over the weekend. The IBCA Iowa Select II team won their pool (3-0) and lost in the second round of bracket play to it's sister team, IBCA Iowa Select I, in a close game 52-47.
IBCA Iowa Select I ran the table winning their pool (3-0) and winning 5 straight during bracket play to win the 2007 Miss Basketball Showcase National Championship. The 64 team field, from 18 states, competed from Thursday - Sunday.
IBCA I beat Pinnacle Bank Nebraska 47-38 in the championship game. Here is a story on the championship from the Kearney Hub. Also you can see any of the boxes here.
Here is the Miss Basketball All-American Teams.
Katelin Oney was named tourney MVP. Kelly Krei, and Trisha Nesbitt also were named to the squad from IBCA Select I, Jessica McDowell made the list from IBCA Select II.
Other familiar names: from ECI West Gold Ashley Privratsky and Alex Feeney. From Dakota Hardwood Threat Kristi Ryan and Amber Wollschlager. From Allegent Crusaders (Omaha) Emily Hauder (that was the player that made the top 5 last week in my review). From Iowa Elite: Ashley Arlen and Clare Duwelius. Drew Roberts from KC Hustle. Shelly Martin and Jordan Hooper from Pinnacle Bank, Nebraska.
Most impressively, none of the other 62 teams at the tournament scored a win vs. an IBCA team...as the IBCA II team's only loss was to their older team.
It was not only the first championship, but the first time a team made up of exclusively Iowa kids, had ever played in the Showcase final.
LAKEVILLE NORTH
Lakeville North Participated in the Miss Basketball Showcase in Kearney, NE this past weekend. Kelsie Ammann, who will be a junior at Lakeville North, finished the tournament in 7th place for the Most 3-Pointers Made by an Individual in the Tournament, she was in first place after two days of the tournament. She finished with 12 threes which also placed her 4th in the tournament for average 3-Pointers Made by an Individual in the Tournament. Lakeville North was the only high school team to participate out of the 64 teams in the tournament, as all of the other teams were all star teams.
