Breakdown Tournament II
Rogers, MN
Blue Bracket championship
NEW LONDON-SPICER wildcats 49,
GIBBON-FAIRFAX-WINTHROP thunderbirds 33

In the first championship Saturday New London-Spicer used a relentless full court press to harass Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop into turnovers and rushed shots. The result was the biggest spread of the championships this day.

Early in the game NLS had a 5/6 scoring sequence which basically sealed the deal. After that point NLS led 10-4. NLS worked the ball into the paint and was able to get their shot off or pick up fouls and score from the line. Once NLS scored they slapped on their press and GFW coughed the ball up, some times directly for lay ups. GFW had a 7 possession drought that did not help their cause. NLS had another 6/7 offensive sequence that put them up 25-15. Showing their balance, six different players contributed. NLS led 27-15 at the break.

Things didn't move off what was set in the first half. NLS had mini strings of three possessions, but never had any serious drought challenges. GFW came closest on their first possession when Abby Busch scored to make it 27-17. A nine possession drought sealed their fate. NLS was more persistent on the boards and scoring 8 second half points on put backs. The inside attack opened up shots for their perimeter game too. With the running time (all games had running time) the game ended soon enough 49-33.
