ROGERS BREAKDOWN TOURNAMENT II
Today was the second edition of the Rogers girls basketball Breakdown tournament and four different champions were crowned. I saw three championship games (two were at the same time).

In the first contest in the Blue Bracket championship, New London-Spicer beat Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 49-33. NLS put its stamp on the game early building a 10-4 lead. GFW had to climb back in to the contest but never got rhythm as the NLS full court press gave them fits. NLS led 27-15 at half time and the outcome never really was in doubt. Abby Busch of GFW led all scorers with 15 points. NLS was missing Renae Henjum who was at her sister's wedding.

Next up was the Silver bracket championship with Centennial topping Albany 67-61. Taylor Voss had 32 points including seven 3s for Albany, but Centennial had better balance and depth. In the first half and second half Centennial pushed their leads out to 10, but Albany never quit and closed the margin to 30-27 at half and again in the second half narrowed the gap to three, but never got closer. Kiara Allums had 18 to lead Centennial. Centennial also had a player missing due to weddings--Megan Nipe.

At the same time as the Silver championship Becker was playing St. Francis for the Gold Bracket championship. This contest went to overtime with Becker edging St. Francis 33-31 in an almost 180 degree different game than the high flying Silver contest. Becker too was missing players, but not due to weddings.

In the last championship game of the day it was Braham beating New Ulm Cathedral 39-36 in the Green Bracket. Braham led at half 22-13, but NUC kept chipping away. NUC did take the lead 36-35 with 2:40 to go (everything was running time). Braham's Devin Diedrich canned two free throws on the next possession for Braham to regain the lead 37-36. Braham's defense held for four possessions after and Diedrich added two more free throws to her game high 16 points.

These games featured a few players that were at the Top 100 Expo in St. Cloud this week. Abby Busch, Emily Becken, Kayla Blom and Bridget Schuneman were all All Camp. Stephanie Kruggel, and Devin Diedrich also attended the T100E.

I will report in detail on these games tomorrow.

Next up: tomorrow morning with the general news of the day.
