13U AAU NATIONALS
MIDTOWN LADY MONARCHS

The Monarchs 13U played the Maryland Flames in their first game in the AAU Girls basketball and won 53-65. In their second game which was for first place in their pool they played Tennessee Flight Trotters. MLM were up by 6 at half and led most of the game, but lost on a last second shot 47-48. MLM finished 2nd in the pool and will be Minnesota's lone representative in the championship bracket. Their first game was against the Tennessee Lady Shox.

The Midtown Lady Monarchs 13U defeated a very, very good (ranked #4 in the country) Mid Atlantic Elite team from Philadelphia. It was with an assortment of offensive weapons and a stifling defense that the Monarchs used to build a 19-3 lead early in the game and finished the first half up 33-19. The 2nd half got as close as 8 points, but the Monarchs regrouped to seal the victory 71-60. It was a total team effort again with 7 girls scoring 5 points or more and all girls coming in and playing great defense. We were told going into the game that the Elite may have 3 of the best guards in the nation. But left knowing they didn't have 3 of the best guards in the game last night. Now it is on to the Great Eight tonight at 5:15 pm. They will play Mission Rec Center out of San Francisco. MRC eliminated North Tartan and the Mpls Lady Cats last year.
Here is a picture of the Monarchs celebrating the big win.
