Top 100 Expo Camp
Consolation championship
NORTH CAROLINA 75, ARIZONA STATE 73

This turned out to be the best contest that I saw as far as dramatics. North Carolina's Lulu Seelye scored the game winner on a drive on the left side capping a 7 point comeback with under 3 minutes left. The GFW duo of Abby Busch and Stephanie Kruggel had 45 points for Arizona State and Veronica Scott had 14. However the rest of the ASU team delivered 12 points.

This game was competitive throughout. NC had a seven possession drought, but Arizona State didn't exploit the situation to the maximum, only squeezing six points out. That put ASU up 17-11. NC did rally and take the lead going into the second quarter 19-18. Brittney Lodermeier had four points in the 8-1 run.

Early in the second quarter ASU had a 10-5 run to take a 28-24 lead. Busch had four as did Caitlyn Anderson for ASU. They stretched that lead out to 36-26. In a recurring pattern NC stormed back late with a 7-0 run on a four possession string to close to 36-33. At the break it was 41-35.

On the first two NC possessions of the second half they cut the margin to 41-39. Once again ASU pulled ahead by ten 51-41 on a 10-2 run. Once again NC did close to end the quarter 59-56. Erin Gadient knocked down eight points in the 15-8 run.

NC started off the fourth quarter with three straight scores and pulled out ahead 61-59. Busch took over and put ASU on her shoulders. She scored the next five points which kicked off a 9-0 run. NC didn't stay down for long. They climbed back to 68-67. Busch struck again for five points, including a three, to go up 73-67. That was the last points ASU would score. With 2:23 left NC staged their final comeback. Kayla Huether hit a three to bring NC to 73-72. On the next possession she hit a free throw to tie it. With under a minute left ASU came up empty with Busch missing a shot. Kylie Barron also missed for NC. with 16 seconds left ASU took a time out. After the break Shannon Thompson double dribbled and NC had a chance with six seconds. That is when Lulu Seelye made her runner.
