MINNESOTA ELITE CAMP
Tonight I attended the MN Elite Camp and watched two games. first I am putting up the numbers.
One thing about the camp at Concordia St. Paul--the air conditioning is out due to roof work.
ROCKERS 63, FEVER 49
The camp is divided into two divisions with WNBA names (or former WNBA teams). There is supposed to be 10 players a team, but some players are still at other events. In the first game it was an East match up with the Rockers rocking the Fever 63-49.
Since it is the first day of the camp, the execution was off as players were still learning each others names. Droughts were more common than strings of offensive success. In the first half of this game the Fever had a 12 possession parched march. In the meantime the Rockers snapped out of their own 8 possession dry spell with a 12-0 run to take a 18-6 lead. The Rockers maintained that advantage for the rest of the half and led 33-18 at the break.
In the early part of the second half the Fever opened with an 11-2 run to cut the margin to 35-29 and it looked like their would be some drama. However the Rockers answered that challenge with a 15-2 run of their own to put the game out of reach 50-31. Jessie Althoff had six points in the stretch for the Rockers. That is basically the margin for the rest of the night as the Rockers pushed the lead out to 21. The Fever had one last push to close the gap at the end with a 9-3 run.
