This game took place on Saturday, June 30
Dakota Showcase, Augustana
Sioux Falls
Quarterfinals
DAKOTA HARDWOOD THREAT 78,
PINNACLE BANK NEBRASKA 59

Dakota Hardwood Threat battle back and won the game but lost their starting point guard Alexis Yackley to a tournament ending knee injury. What made the win special was that DHT trailed at the time of the injury 14-7.

PBN scored on six straight possessions as it seemed they could do no wrong. Shelly Martin scored the first 8 points of the game. DHT started off without a score in their first four possessions, but then the skies opened the the points fell fast and furious. They scored on six straight possessions. Amber Wollschlager led the charge for DHT. PBN picked a bad time to have a seven possession drought as DHT went on a 12-0 run to take a 25-18 lead. Nicky Rausch provided half the points in this run. DHT kept the hot hand the rest of the half with 20 more points. That would have translated into a 133.3 pp100. For the half DHT was smoking at 136.4 pp100.

In the second half things cooled off somewhat, but not enough for PBN. Wollschlager kept up her production with 12 points. Rausch had 11 points in the second half as well. PBN had a few dry spells and when trying to keep up with DHT that isn't wise. PBN had a five possession drought. DHT's longest dry spell was at the end of the game with four and the game well in command.

In the other quarterfinal game it was ECI Gold West edging IBCA Select I 84-82 in a race with the thoroughbreds. It went right down to the wire. It was IBCA's first loss of the year. Both games were going on at the same time and I picked court 2. Court 1 had a pair of nail biters, court 2 had safe games, interesting, but safe.

Next up: the quarterfinal between Metro Stars Black and Kansas City Hustle
