Adidas Mid America Tournament
Hopkins
17u quarterfinals
MN STARS BOROWICZ 63,
IOWA LIGHTNING SCARLET 29
In this quarterfinal it was MN Stars Borowicz that thundered while the Iowa Lightning Scarlet didn't quite light up the scoreboard. The Jordan duo of Brittany Chambers and Leah Dietel provided 29 points, the same total as ILS.
Both teams struck pay dirt on their first possession with Chambers draining a trey and Trisha Van Dusseldorp providing the points for ILS. But ILS had more dry spells than scores with droughts of 6, 6, and 5 in the first half. MSB had one offensive sequence where they scored six straight times--a 12-0 run to make it 23-8. ILS didn't like the full court pressure and MSB 8 first half points on transition. Another factor in the MSB lead was the domination on the offensive boards. Eight more points were added by that category. MSB led 34-14 at the break.
The game didn't move very far off the mark in the second half. MSB's defense only permitted two 2 point field goals. Every MSB player scored in the game. MSB moved on to the semis with a 63-29 win.
