Oddly enough, this game was today!
Adidas Mid-America Championships
Hopkins
17u Sweet Sixteen round
INDIANA ELITE FTW 36,
WI FORCE 33

Indiana Elite FTW (Fort Wayne) overcame a nine point first half deficit, and then held on with a barrage of 3s late by WI Force to move on to the quarterfinals 36-33. This game was a low scoring affair, probably due to staying in a hotel room. No one can complain about the heat inside the Hopkins gyms---they are air conditioned.

With the heat outside it was easier to track the droughts and IEF had the first long drought of 8. WF took advantage of the IEF down time with a 8-0 run. The biggest WF lead came at 13-4. IEF did manage to come back in the first half closing to 17-14 at the buzzer.

The 8 possession drought for IEF was half as long as the 16 possession marathon WF had over the tail end of the first half and the beginning of the second. Tack on the five possession dry spell after a 3 by Chelci Reynolds and it was a 1/22 offensive sequence. That three was the only points WF scored in the first 12 minutes of the second half. WF did manage to close a 28-20 deficit late courtesy the 3 ball. WF hit four 3s for the second half. IEF had a seven point lead with less than 30 seconds to go. WF nailed two 3s for their last two possessions, but time ran out on their 3 parade. IEF moved on to the quarters where they will play ECI West Gold, the second place finishers in the Dakota Showcase last weekend.
